MJT NBD and total disappointment

Nicely done! I like when player wear (what they imitated successfully) is unusual/unique but believable. If you visit my thread SHOW YOUR DISTRESSED FINISHES! you will see many different (real) player-wear basses and how the wear is all across the board. So what a believable relic job comes down to is more about articulation of the wear, not its form/shape - and sometimes not even where it is located. That's because players are not robots and how each player plays and 'treats/handles' their instrument is infinitely different and unique.

exactly. And I’m subbed there BTW...

I think I Gave a similar silly narratives on the wear... always wore a bracelet, never wore a belt or something :)

Fresh progress pics from MJT - looking good! A bit more wear than the thick red coating it originally had and just enough to look its age. (in nitro) Can't wait to see it in person - I dig how the checking is only visually apparent at certain angles. :thumbsup: Hopefully will be here by weeks end.

Update: should be here on Monday or Tuesday as it ships tomorrow/Thursday 2nd. (being a holiday weekend and all)

Only vintage ('64) P w/BMM I've seen pics of was first being for sale on eBay (which is where these pics are from), and then being owned by Guy Pratt who also owns a '64 J in BMM.

I know Betsy and Eliza very well! the MJT body will be much like his, but maybe a little *less* wear :)

well I don’t know that it made a ton of difference but I left the bass in the sun for about 5 days. I eventually got tired of not being able to play it so reassembled it and said it is what it is. I mean it plays and sounds great no complaints there.
The picture on the right is after 3 days vs the 1st day on the left. And the bottom is the last day but I think that picture just makes the bass look a bit darker than it is, you can tell the yellow chair looks more golden in the bottom shot.

This is my wrap-up/assessment of having MJT do a light-relic'd Burgundy Mist Metallic finish/treatment on my modded '93 American Standard J. I'm very pleased with the result. I've wanted a BMM J for years and having a bass I've owned for years (a very played old friend) in this colour is great. I have no issues with MJT - they were very professional and communicative over the months and delivered according to the time-frame they first stated.

It's a tough finish as I did routing on the backside after I got it back using strong double-stick tape to hold my routing form on, and the tape didn't pull the finish off afterwards. '93 Fender Jazz Plus/Kubicki 9v pre installed.

Yours looks really good I'm happy for you that it turned out well! And I should reiterate I had no problems with their professionalism or communication.

They shouldn't have charged me twice for shipping for issues that weren't my fault. They should have gotten the cavities routed or at least caught it with their QC person which happened twice. The color wasn't really what I asked for.

I'm sorry you had problems with them - sounds like they really dropped the ball.

Dude. So cool. Are those TV Jones picksups in there? I’ve been dying to put some TV Jones bass picksups in a 51. Is that the standard pickup placement just routed out to accommodate that (soapbar?) pickup up and ring?

Thanks again. Yes, TV Jones ThunderBlades [neck position] in the same placement as the single coils.

I've modded a Cabronita w/ a TV Jones SuperTron [bridge position] centered directly between the neck & bridge. The pickup placement does make a difference.

I'm very late to the party here, but saw MJT in the title, had to look.
Sorry, just my opinion, your bass looks beautiful. Maybe I say that cause my favorite Fender custom color is Ocean Turquoise Metallic, which is what it looks like. That don't look like Sherwood Green to me at all....
I'm a HUGE nitro fan. I have two MJT bodied basses.
While I did not have the issues as the original poster here, my 10-14 week took 22 weeks.
No answer offered when I asked. My PM was terrible with communication.
I've read so many different stories, from so many different people about him. Kinda hard to believe he still has that job...
I recently found another finishing company run by a former MJT employee.
My 6-8 week project shipped a couple days shy of 8 weeks.
I should have the bass in 3 weeks from assembly.
And another in June. The pictures I've seen look amazing
