Corey Seager joins a very small club of two-time World Series MVP winners. Seager, I think, is the only guy to have been named WS MVP for both an AL and NL team. He’s such a good hitter.

Counsell to the Cubs. I knew he was leaving, but to the Cubs? Now I'm hearing all about how Counsell was awful and they have a shot at a championship now, or how Counsell is a greedy , or how the owner needs to open his wallet. Counsell was the best manager in Brewer history. Five of the nine playoff appearances happened in the last six years under him. And he did it with a middle of the road payroll. As much as I like him, I can't root for him now.

As much as I like him, I can't root for him now.

At $40M/5 years for a manager the Cubs can't ever cry poor when it comes to free agency (not that they could anyway). So Ohtani or bust . . . or Soto . . . or both. Trade for the Polar Bear and negotiate a contract extension. I liked Rossy just fine and don't know anyone that saw the Cubs as a big playoff threat when they broke camp. Looking back one has to wonder how much better they might have been if they'd had a legit 1st baseman to start with. While the Cubs front office was all positive on Ross at the end of the season I'm thinking they weren't real happy after calling up Canario only to see him languish on the bench (though not sure where they thought he'd play given where the actual lineup gaps were).

Have to think Counsell didn't take the job without some solid assurances from Cubs mgmt about their commitment to spend on FA's to meet some immediate needs while the young talent proves they're ready. Not when the Mets were right there with a proven track record of spending like drunken sailors.

I feel sorry for Ross. I doubt he saw this coming, and I doubt the team let him know ahead of time.

I was yesterday years old when I found out that Red Sox closer Kenley Jansen is a bass player. His teammates bought him a Fender Jazz to commemorate his 400th save last month. It looks like a Strat in his huge hands. I've seen videos of him playing Stingrays which makes sense based on neck profile. I understand that he comes from a musical family and it shows.

He is still an elite closer, and by all accounts, a great teammate. His baseball skills are a little wasted on this year's version of the Sox, but I think there is a good chance he will be traded to a contender before the deadline.

Cool story. Jansen seems like a really likeable dude. Even more so now that I know he plays bass!

It is really weird to think of Kenley as anything but a Dodger.

What a disastrous free agent signing that was! Abreu was basically unplayable since he went to Houston.
