if i turn bass knob (knob moving is rated from 1 to 10)past 8 it starts distorting .is this normal in local shop they said that the resistor will solve the problem

OK, so if I understand you properly you have the SD musicman replacement preamp system.
When you turn bass past 8 you get distortion.
There are two solutions
1) don't turn the bass past 8
2) maybe lower your pickups or take your action up - increase the space between pickups/strings

when u go past 7 destorted to 8 .5 from 8.5 to 10 signal goes down -silence but when u hit strings hard just bzzzzzzzzzz.
