Hi guys.
This is my first post here. I'm italian, i am

My bass is this:

i picked it up for 500 € and it's great! But I want a new sound from it... a more rock sound...i'd like a sound of a Fender Jazz Aerodyne...
I've choosen 3 set of pickups:
1) EMG P+J active
2) Fender precision (or spb-2 but some people said it has too mids )+ SD STK-J2 ( i think that this is one of the best rock jazz pickup.... or is better a SBJ-2)
3) what do you think of dimarzio pickup? how is their sound?

I know i have lots of question... i'm a newbie in pick-ups!:rolleyes::rolleyes:
Thanks
keep rockin :bassist:

what kind of music do u play? This is a big part of picking pickups. My personal opion is Fender pickups are kinda good but not great and r over rated or hated. Some of the dimarzio pickups are really nice other tend to b abit disapointing. What it comes down to is type of music u play and how u play it. (slap, fingers, pick, etc.)

i'd have already taken SD spb-2 and STKj2b but sd site says that sd pickup works well with classical fender woods... and then i i know a person who bought 2 sd pickup (180€) and then his bass (ibanez Gsr-200) sounded just like before... (maybe the bass was very cheap)...

anyway mi ideal sound would be aerodyne-like... classical but powerful sound suitable for all rock genres....

+1 on EMG. If you didn't think your friend's bass sounded significantly different going to Duncans maybe the change from passive to active would be more to your liking? Or the other way around; if you have active pickups maybe you'd prefer passive. To be honest I don't know if Ibanez uses active or passive pickups with their active EQs. A lot of companies make great sounding passive pickups; SD, Nord, DiMarzio, Villex, HAS Sound, some people even like the cheap GFS pickups. Personally I like MECs (the Jazz ones anyways).
