Modding a JMJ Mustang with a P90??

I have a JMJ Mustang and have been thinking about grabbing one of Serek’s “B90s” and putting it in the bridge position. Its a p90 but wound for bass. I attached a picture with a template cut out of the pick up.

Am I crazy for wanting to do this? I love my JMJ but I was thinking I could make it a little more versatile adding a bridge pick up and didnt necessarily want a regular single coil. Thoughts, questions, concerns, comments open for discussion. Hope everyone is doing well during quarantine!

I think it would look cool, I'd be tempted to move the input jack to the side of the body and add Vol / Tone / blend to the bell plate, similar to the Mustang Performer, I also did this to a PJ Mustang and it really opened up the tonal variation, so you could dial in that sweet spot

If you don’t care about resale value on your JMJ, then do as you please. It might make the JMJ harder to sell though. Your call.

I did it! I put a 1967 DeArmond gold foil and a Serek B90. I put a 3 way switch for neck, both, and bridge.

Coming to the party a year and a half late, but...Do you have audio clips of this Modstang posted anywhere? I'm curious about both of those pups in a short scale, and I'd love to hear 'em

I'm looking at the lzn-b90 as a mod to gimme more tonal options/articulation. That being said, I really like the stock Seymour mustang pup.

Is there any reason people usually swap the mustang split coil for something else when adding a b90 at bridge position?

That looks like a jazzmaster pickup, not a p90. Not that it matters though…. Go for it

I've linked the Serek's page for that pickup.
It's said to be a p90-inspired bass humbucker.

Does not look like a jazzmaster pup at first glance.
