Modding vs. Dressing

Is changing pickguards, knobs or adding covers considered a modification or dressing-up?

Probably depends on if you're keeping the bass to play yourself or trying to sell it on TB, eBay, Craigslist, etc. Personally I'd consider anything other than "stock" as modded.

Depends on who's doing the considering. I doubt there's any general consensus on fine hair-splitting terminology questions like this. If you plan to resell, try to keep the original stuff, other than that, who cares what someone else calls it?

Whatever makes you happy. IMO purely cosmetic changes are not mods.

Any car brought to a race with the only modifications being rims and tires races in the stock class. A tort guard and block stickers on a p that came to you with a white guard and still has everything else that it left the factory with truly is only dressed up. The thing is, that phrase is never ever used as a term of endearment in either cars or guitars- most especially not with regards to potentially collectable items.

IMO not a mod, because does not affect playability.
