That was pretty much exactly my experience with the Blueberry. If you like its character, a lot of people recommend the Azure Drive as having a bigger range of usable gain and as being less colored. Never played one myself, just passing along the info.
I had a 5th Gear V2 and found it to perform best feeding other dirt pedals. I didn't love it on its own or behind other pedals, and settled on using it exclusively like the V1 to push other dirt. I actually just flipped it for a V1, since I wasn't using the bias anyway, and now I'll have something that I can stash under my board as an always-on deal.

@morgan138, the challenges with the BBBOD are rectified with the Azure Drive. If there was enough about the Blueberry that you liked, definitely grab an Azure.
The Fifth Gear is really meant to push other pedals and enhance tone. You just can't think of it as a stand alone pedal IMO. As a stacker though, it is invaluable. And, yes, the Fifth Gear doesn't have a lot of volume on tap, which is why I say it's not even really a "boost". It's a "fattener", for lack of a better way to put it.
