Modern examples of

Im a big Police and Peter Gabriel fan. One aspect of their work that I really like is using influences from other cultures. Another group that I love that dis this are Ekova who mix middle eastern with electronic, also Dhafer Youssef who mixes middle eastern with electronic and jazz.

What are examples of other artists that do this? More recent/current preferred but any are welcome.

Thanks

Although not current, Bow Wow Wow was well known for mixing drums inspired by the Burundi tribe with surf and spaghetti western guitar along with high energy bass lines, slap and lots of scratching to accompany the drums. Top it off with vocals from an underage Burmese girl and they had a very distinct sound even for the 80's. Bow Wow Wow (or I should say Malcolm McLaren) were not above copying songs almost note for note, and they only lasted about 2-3 years before they split up due to internal strife. Unfortunately there are not very many videos of them playing live but those that are on YT are fun to watch.
