Modern examples of

David Lindley mixed reggae, folk, Caribbean, Tejano, Blues, etc etc. He was an extremely talented multi-instrumentalist and singer.

Ive heard his name before but havent listened to him before, thanks for the suggestion.

Lindley was long time band member/soloist for Jackson Browne, with a specialty of lap steel slide, but as mentioned, he otherwise involved himself in a wide variety of styles and influences. I found his solo stuff far more interesting(which can also be read that I can’t stand Browne), saw him live a number of times, and he was a fixture at a small folk music store in a college town east of Los Angeles(owned by Ben Harper’s mother).

In the late 60’s, he was in a group called Kaleidoscope, who were a early example of adding/exploring a number of non-rock and non-Western musical motifs and instruments within a rock band context…

Similarly, there was a early 60’s folkie, Sandy Bull, who injected Middle Eastern and Indian flavors into his music before the Beatles…

Working with a jazz drummer, he was an early proponent of the multiple overdub/one man band recording process.

As well, from the same time period, Robbie Basho, who concentrated on 12-string guitar

Im a big Police and Peter Gabriel fan. One aspect of their work that I really like is using influences from other cultures. Another group that I love that dis this are Ekova who mix middle eastern with electronic, also Dhafer Youssef who mixes middle eastern with electronic and jazz.

What are examples of other artists that do this? More recent/current preferred but any are welcome.

Thanks
Lately, Stewart Copeland has been working with an Indian musician/activist, Ricky Kej(and a cast of thousands)on some sprawling, cinematic world fusion…

That won the Grammy in the World Music category in ‘22; then recently they did an album of reinterpreted Police songs. An obvious move, perhaps, but interesting results with a number of guest artists…

I’m surprised that Mohini Dey hadn’t been mentioned, so here you go..
