modular cabs to vertical stack

Been out of the game for a decade or so and going to start jamming again. Looking for suggestions for 10" 12" or even 15" cabs that I can vertical stack. Was looking at bergantino but dont think Im ready to drop 2k plus on 2 tiny cabs right now and not many seem to be available used probably for a reason and the few I did find are older models and Im not to knowledgeable on their older models so if people want to drop some knowledge on that below I might try to find a matching pair. I know I could pick up a fridge or something big and heavy on the cheap which is what I used to have (swr 8x10 and ampeg 8x10) in the past that I got for amazing deals but I'm looking for a modular rig I can actually transport without a suv/truck/trailer as all I have is a car. I dont have a head yet and thats a whole another thing but I have month to source and buy this equipment so times kind of short and I could get stuck researching different options forever. I know shipping is also a problem so Ive been looking locally but theres not much in my area. So any suggest at what to look at that I could scoop would be great something in the bergantino vain most likely. I would also like some cabs I dont have to upgrade instead of just buying something that will do and throw more money at a better cab set up later.

My $0.019 experience with vertical stacking:

I’ve been gigging several Berg cabs for quite a while, including a pair of 212’s. A previous house we had allowed for trying different setups (large central room, high ceiling); and I tried several different configs.

Stacking the 212’s does eliminate upper frequency comb filtering. You can hear it with a full range bass with round wounds as you walk across the projection space. But, stacking also reduces the bass response.

Couple points: first, that upper frequency comb filtering does not affect most of the bass instrument sound spectrum. But, loss of bass response does affect the instrument, especially in the stage mix.

Another TB’er suggested trying a shallow V placement; and I found that positioning to produce the best result with zero filtering issues, and no loss of bass response. It does take up a bit more stage space; and perhaps, doesn’t produce the desired visual eye candy. But, it does produce optimal audible output. YMMV, but that’s the way I roll with a pair of 212’s.

I find a stacked pair of 2x10s, like the one in @SJan3's in post, to be ideal. I've got a pair of old SWRs that I use with one band, and a pair of Avatars that I used in the other -- both powered by a 500w SS head. Provides all the volume and headroom you'll ever need, and is tall enough to get some speakers up closer to your ears so you can hear myself in the mix. Also puts your amp (on top) closer to eye level for easy access.

It's very nice having the amp at eye level.

I have a pair of Eden 210 cab. A D-210-XLT (350 watts RMS) and a D-210-XST (500 watts RMS). One the plus side, well tuned highly efficient cabs built for the long haul. The handles are properly positioned for ease of transport. A used pair of XLTs in good shape will run you about $800. A used pair of XSTs about $1,000.

Downside is Eden is no longer in business, but Eminence, the company that made those drivers is, although I’m not sure they make the same drivers. The other is the weight. Right around 50lbs. No NEOs, but real solid construction and touring capable.

You should be able to fit two cabs in back seat of most midsized 4 door cars that I’ve rented over the years, like Jetta, Corolla, Altima, Camry (not saying it’s going to do the interior of your car much good). If you own a Smart Car, or a two door non-hatchback, you’re out of luck. Best wishes in your search

The Berg cabs are well worth the money. I mostly gig with an older CN210 with a Tonehammer500, only at the largest gigs with no FOH have I really needed to add my CN112. Berg cabs are available used because Jim keeps bringing out newer models.

for most gigs I’m heading there in my Miata, so one will fit in any vehicle.

I see there is 2 ae cabs for sale for what's seems like a good price I just don't know enough yet about all the different models. I think I'll be using a SVT CL so I guess I'd be looking for 2 single 8 ohm cabs or it looks like one of his 2x12 cabs.

My budget is 1kish to a bit higher so I might just jump into a new Berg as most seem as much as a new 2x12. The few I do find used I could get 2 instead of 1 but none are matching models.

2xNeo 210's or 2x112's can be very manageable. You can certainly save a little money on a Neo 212 cab vs 112's.

I've owned/own these Ceramic's that are around used and still lighter... the Aguilar GS112's are 34ish pounds. The GK CX210 and CX115 are also lighter at around 35/37lbs.

A 1 cab solution that's light might be a Subway 115 depending on what type of music you're playing.

I don't know your location, but if you're in New England, and up for a day trip, I have two unloaded Markbass 2x10s, exactly like these THAT I WILL GIVE YOU FOR FREE. Then you just need to find some speakers to load them with.

Eminence told me that their Delta-10B or Legend CA10-16 would both be suitable drivers for this cab.

Crossovers work great, etc. Just unloaded.

Send me a PM if your interested. My wife will thank you for the reclaimed basement space.
