Hi all. I'm currently running the Origin Effects bassrig Super Vintage and loving it for my heavier sounds (Stoner Doom Metal, lots of Fuzz and Distortion) but I'm missing the B-15 sound for my funk and groove jazz band. I previously had a SushiBox Slampegg and loved it.

I'm running right into a power amp and Mesa Subway cabs (1x15 and 1x12)

So now I am looking for a solution to have both sounds on tap.

Obviously I could get an Origin Bassrig Fifteen but two Origin Bassrigs is pretty expensive.

I'm familiar with the Ampeg SGT DI but it's not quite for me.

So I'm considering a more modular setup where I run a SVT or B-15 pedal into a Sushi Box Finally. Right now I'm looking at the Broughton SVT Pre and the Barber Linden for the B-15 stack.

Does anyone have experience with these combinations are thoughts on this approach?

I do wish this provided a cab sim solution but I think FOH can take arw of that and I have sim options in my DAW.

I've dug through all the relevant TalkBass threads on the individual pedals, just looking for thoughts on the combo approach.

It really should. I just have two hangups with that one:

1) I don't like the idea of the digital cab sim. I'm sort of old-school in this regard but I prefer to keep my bass signal all analog, analogue even. I've also read mixed reviews of this feature.

2) It's too big for my current board and I don't want to go any bigger on the board.

Broughton SVPre is fantastic. One of my favourite pedal preamps I've ever used. You can also add his MiniFridge cab-sim DI to your cart at the same time and walk away with a complete DI SVT rig.

I can't comment on the Linden. But while you're shopping at Broughton's you might as well just add a P15 to the cart while you're at it ;). Another one of my favourite pieces of gear I've ever owned.

Yep, the SV-Pre sounds great. I should get out my Mini Fridge and try it into the cab, I really only use my cab sims in the studio for IEMs.

Yeah, the Colonel just beat me to it, but the VT Deluxe can do what you want in a pretty convincing way using the Character control.

I have mine set up to do 4 presets with an SVT flavor (different degrees of dirt/drive) and 4 presets with a B15 flavor. The VT Deluxe predates the Origin FX stuff, and may not be quite as refined, but it does sound good and meets the OP's goals.

Been down this path for sure so thought I'd chime in. The Barber Linden is great, but it's EQ only (as the name states) and doesn't get into overdrive like a B15.

Yes, the Bassrig Fifteen is A+. Being able to switch cab sim on/off is a great addition. It also overdrives really beautifully. I use it mostly clean and use and an Xotic RC booster to get it to overdrive.

If you're going the Broughton route, they also offer the Fliptop, which is great and has a cab sim. I really like the SV-PRE for meaty clean tones more than driven tones. If you have a DI downstream, then this kind of setup gives you a best of both worlds at the click of a switch.

Fwiw, my favorite SVT pre is the Mozztronics DI-2 (not a pedal, but can be used that way), and the Bassrig Fifteen wins it easy for the B15 tones with the Fliptop close behind.

Unexpected champ for B15 tones is the Xotic RC booster V1 or V2. Has a Bax stack and I can get the EQ to sound dang close to other B15 emulators.

Interesting. I do love SansAmp. I was a BDDI guy for decades. I tried the VTDI out, but at the time I preferred the BDDI I already had. I'll give that a look.

Yeah, it's the B-15 EQ in a box. People seem to dig it.

Funny you should mention that. One of my projects has me running my Rick in Rick-o-sound but the bridge pickup is going through my guitar rig. This is what I want the SVT sound for, everything else I do could be the B-15

left field suggestion. you can get a nice warm grind with the OE Cali76 when you crank the input. i kind of have it set that way for always on squish. feels not unlike overdriving a portaflex. if you don't already have one, its a great pedal.

I've heard nothing but great things but I'm pretty attached to my Empress. I like the idea though!
