Modulus Jazz Bass Pickups

I recently acquired a Modulus Vintage Jazz Bass, I love the way it plays but I'm not entirely happy with the Bartolini Pickups. Has anybody out there switched the pickups in their Modulus Jazz bass? Can you share the results?
Thanks

I have a parts VJ that had very sizzly single-coil pickups. Combined with the graphite neck, the brightness was a bit over the top (sterile ). I put in split-coil Bartolinis that toned down the top end, punched up the fundamental, and eliminated the noise...I'm much happier now.

I recently did a recording with my Modulus Jazz Bass. The engineer kept going on about the low gain and about how soft the bass sounded. When I heard the final recording I kind of agreed. There was a definite lack of punch. I'm just wondering if anybody has had the same experience.

Barts aren't exactly the hottest pickups out there but that's what the gain knob is for...any competent engineer should know how to turn one.

Have you tried raising the pickups? Mine are VERY high. If you don't like 'em, get some hotter pickups (or a preamp if it's passive).
