Modulus Mob

This one (my "Main Squeeze") - in the middle (both pups) and depending on the strings I adjust treble as needed:

This guy sounds so awesome with the bridge pup favored ever so slightly:

And this guy (fretless VJ4) - favor the bridge pup, boost the bass and adjust treble accordingly (usually a little less treble):

Strings - DR's usually with some D'ads too.
Question for the Mob- the VJ4 came with the Audre pre which I am not thrilled about. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Well I have two moddys with john east pre amps and they friggin rule. Most versatile and clear sounding I've ever heard. Especially with graphite necks.!

Ok so her it is. Just arrived today in the mail. Got it from the bay for what I consider a great deal, especially considering the condition it's in considering it's over ten years old. Literally not a scuff on it. I always wanted a fretless that was reminiscent of the BOD!

I'm in love! It's sooooo beautiful! :bawl::

The action is incredible. There is a slight problem with the A string buzzing anywhere below the 8th fret marker. I adjusted the bridge saddle as high as I can comfortably and it's still there.

Other than that and the aguilar obp1;) It's amazing. Well there you go. All mine.

Thanks all!

So, now I have a question for fretless moddy players: is it safe to use round wounds on the phenolic fingerboard? Or should I treat it like ebony or something and just keep rounds off of it? I'm just worried about digging/gouging/grooving into the phenolic compound. Is it a tough enough material to resist that kind of wear or should I play it safe? Anyone with moddy fretless experience that's able to offer some advice would be my hero!

In my experience with fretless Moduli the phenolic holds up just about the same as ebony. So the endless debate of should you use rounds on ebony ensues. I personally use flats on all my fretlless basses, which have ebony.

I ordered a set of Ken Smith pressure wounds to try out, i've heard good things about them. I'll see how those sound/feel/treat the fingerboard. But yea something tells me i'm gonna want something flat to really be nice to the fingerboard....

I'm just hoping to find a flatwound/groundwound or something that will still sound full and fairly bright while also not giving too much finger drag. I'm not really used to flats at this point...

I use rounds (nickel though - NOT steel) and find that the phenolic stands up to it just fine. I find the phenolic to be much more durable than the ebony fingerboards I have. String of choice for fretless is D'Addario XL nickel rounds. Ground wounds or half rounds feel a bit sticky to me and the tone of flats is a bit too soft and warm. You can get away with it because the Modulus is so lively with that carbon fiber neck. But, it is tough to beat the growl and mwah of round wounds against the fingerboard.

From what everybody is saying I'm thinking these Ken smith's compression wounds should be perfect. Nickel plated, so they are a bit softer than ss and they are less ridged than rounds by a little bit. I'm thinking they might be just the ticket.

I'll definitely post the results once they arrive in the mail and they've been on it for a couple weeks and see how they wear in.

Can anyone comment on the lifespan of Ken smith strings? I've never used them before, I'm generally a DR guy.
