Modulus Mob

Thanks, guys. I hesitated buying the Walnut FU5...I already had a Silver Sparkle FU5...but the Walnut one turned out to be a very nice bass, and the price was ridiculous. Ironically, a week later, the wife of the guy who sold me the Silver FU5 2 years ago emailed me and offered to buy back that bass as a surprise for her husband who missed it terribly.
Things just work out sometimes

First dibs are yours, JFMusic!

"What is FU??? Flea something or another?"

It stands for Funk Unlimited, and is, indeed, the Flea Bass sans Flea logo. Perhaps after withdrawl of Flea's endorsement deal with Modulus? I am sure someone here knows what went down with that transition.

I would suggest the development to be:

1. Sonic Hammer (~1994/95)
2. Flea Bass (~1996-1998ish)
3. Funk Unlimited (1998ish-end of production)

I checked out a Sonic Hammer about a year ago. It had some big ass upper and lower horns, but had a pickguard and the MM-located single humbucker (Bart in that case) and, to my recollection, was a 34" scale like the subsequent Flea Bass/FU.

Here's a fun one...the color and the name "Bud" suggests that this bass may have belonged to Jeff Spicolli...Whoa, dude!

Actually, this apparently belonged to the bass player from "Sublime" and sold recently on TB. When I told the seller that I thought "Bud" referred to the resemblance of the finish to a bud of herb, he was shocked.
I didn't buy it.

So, Bassman, I am looking to see what EMG system you have in that lovely bass? I have a similar Bart system in my G5, but I am thinking I want to trade it with someone for their EMG system.
My G5 has Bart Jazz p'ups and I think it is the XCTC 3 band eq system. Would prefer the EMG with the BQS system electronics. I am thinking I just prefer the EMG's to the Barts.

These electronics have Volume, Blend, Treble/Bass Stack, Stacked Mid Control , I believe thats a BQC system. Its 9 volt. Bart Jazz pups...like J pickups? By G5, you mean Genesis 5?

Yes, my Genesis 5 had regular size 5 string Jazz pickups in it. I am thinking I really do not like Bart's. I really like EMG's. I know that there was an upcharge for Bart's over EMG's for these, but I really prefer the EMG's. Mine has a Volume, Blend, Bass, Stacked Mid/High (I think)

I like the EMGs as well, have had 6 quantum fives and sixes with both configurations and I just think the EMGs cut through beautifully. I am keeping the Q5, just put some new Sunbeams on her and its just amazing the action is even better(close to being there) because of the less tension strings. Still having a luthier correct the relief on the neck. Keep y'all posted.
