I didn't like how it worked. I had to change the batteries. Probably something broke. My luthier was on vacation. And I needed to play live. I removed the equalizer and the concert I liked the sound without it. Decided to leave it.

... So I'm having a hard time understanding why the phoenix company that is Modulus is so much higher priced... Doesn't seem to make sense.

Geoff Gould is the founder of Modulus and the "godfather of graphite"- maybe you're looking at knockoffs? ;)

I keed, I keed. But that has been brought up before- to be fair, Geoff isn't making the necks (i am assuming), and doesn't have a factory or anything, so I'd guess he has less overhead. Not 100% familiar with his business model (not that it's any of my business), but guessing he's more of an assembler than a builder. Which is not a knock- his basses look great, and one of these days I'll give one a shot. Those coco bola topped ones scratch me right where I itch! :bassist:

Necessity is the mother of invention. Cool that it worked for you- good thing it wasn't an EMG pickup

I'm pretty sure that Geoff is still making necks. There's no reason he wouldn't be. They have the same kld pattern and no one else besides Modulus makes that. And the necks are certainly not coming from the Modulus company, Tony and Joe are too backed up with their own projects. I'm pretty sure it's Geoff and his crew making all the GG basses from scratch and I'm pretty sure their production is fairly limited. But they've also only ever offered one model of bass (and some custom options of that model that use identical necks) and that probably makes it easier for them to produce. Only having to mold 3 types of neck (instead of having multiple different styles with all the different numbers of string options) means having to fabricate less molds which are expensive.

Anyway, I digress. I'm mainly saying I'm pretty sure that GG basses are made completely by the company. But either way they are under half the price of a new Modulus for the same kind of neck. And as far as overhead costs go, Joe Perman isn't running a factory either (in fact I would guess their current operation is smaller than Geoff Gould) so they don't have much overhead either.

I'm truly searching for a justification for the sky high prices of Modulus bass nowadays. Maybe they're just trying to make the brand belong to the uppermost echelon of price brackets so that they can have the mystique of being a nearly unaffordable brand for most people... Sort of like Alembic or Fodera.

Not unaffordable to the person with that kind of bread or someone willing to save all the money to spend on those basses (I admit I blew my life's savings on a Carl Thompson). But that's not most people. Most who are even pretty serious players have a price cap of a couple grand, give or take.

Face it, most people just don't have it in their budget to blow over $5k on a bass guitar.

I got both of them for less than 5K total . Right place / right time .Both were used though .
