Oh the pyramid quilt top (as I refer to it)! That is a sweet bass. Good luck with the upgrade to the tbx!

It has a hipshot A style bridge on it. The strings are adjustable, you could probably achieve whatever string spacing you want.
Yea but that then moves the string closer to the end of the board, the actual neck width is totally different on the wider spaced models.
i'm assuming jerry's gonna do the neck?
does joe & co. offer any specific options on a custom build?
i guess, with me, i'd have a grocery list of what i want on a near-$10k bass.
top of that list would be a neck carve to my specs.
is that a possibility or are the neck dimensions of the current tbx the same as when geoff ran the shop (1 7/8" at the nut and 2 7/8" at the 24th fret)?

i'm under the assumption that jerry dorsch (one of the men behind modulus graphite from the get-go iirc) is providing the thru-body neck.
his home base is on the outskirts of seattle.
he's the man behind graphite guitar systems.
supposedly also the provider of graphite necks to current builders like modulus.
nothing confirmed so pure speculation on my behalf.
(don't mean to do a 'toto' and peak behind the curtain of the wizard)
of course, there could be a new player in town making kld necks.

I wasn't exactly sure, but that is who I thought you were talking about. How many people could actually have the
ability to build a graphite neck? I mean, any possibility of him making GG necks too? Just curious.
Also KLD is neck and body, no?? Not neck thru TBX? They are different aren't they?
that's the rub. they're only a handful of manufacturers that deal in graphite.
off the top of my head: moses, status, clover (if they're still in the game), zon, jerry (ggs) and geoff (g. gould).
from previous postings and musings on the interwebs, it was to be assumed that jerry provides the necks to geoff, joe p. & co., and supposedly zon.
i always assumed jerry had a bunch of molds in his workshop up in washington. when an order came in from geoff or joe p., he'd make the neck and ship it to be completed elsewhere (geoff's shop in san francisco, not entirely sure where the workshop is for modulus).
"kld" is short for "a thousand ladies dancing"; the nickname given to our modulus/g. gould graphite necks.
so when the term 'kld' is used, it's in reference to the pattern/layout of graphite 'pieces' that form the mosaic look on the back of our necks.
here's a 'kld' top on a ggs bass:
so a modulus neck-thru with a 'kld' pattern shows the 'thousand ladies dancing' graphite layout from headstock all the way to the strap button / butt:

@Angus: guess i was hoping they can 'manipulate' the mold somehow so a custom 'carve' can be achieved.
for example, how did modulus back in the day make custom headstocks? i've seen a couple of elongated modulus headstocks for 12-string basses.
i'm not asking for much. just would like a width of 1 3/4" at the nut and 3" at the 24th fret.

I love my 94 neck profile. 1-7/8 at the nut and 2-3/4 at the heal. Nice slim narrow profile. Not as slim as my Bassstar which is 1-3/4 nut and 2-1/2 at the heal.
Probably a couple of 1 off molds , and since no one else wanted to pony up the price for 1, they were " retired" .
hmmm... so somewhere in the ether is the retired mold for the peavey b-quad 5 neck...
release the dogs and find it!!!
i believe you've mentioned in the past you're experienced with graphite / resin.
is building a mold for a particular 'custom' kld neck relatively 'easy'? expensive?
It all depends on what it is made out of / for . I'm pretty sure they use a autoclave ( pressure , heat and vacuum ), then it would need to be made out of some king of metal or high temp composite. If they are made in a oven using only heat and vacuum , then they could be made from a variety of things . I helped a guy in Denmark who was trying to make carbon necks using only wet lay-up techniques , and solved a lot of his problems by using a vacuum bag . Next time I talk to my buddy in Monterrey who is friends with Geoff , I will ask him to see if he can get some info from GG .
