You're on the money. Truss rods began appearing in late 1997 and were in most Moduli necks in 1998.
I have been playing my 1978 Mod a lot lately. The more I play it the more I really like it. Playing it, I can see how they were on their way to something extremely good. I now have 3 of them. My 1978 Bassstar Quantum Prototype, 1998 Genesis 5 string and my 1999 Genesis 4 string. Just awsome instruments.
I'd like to join! Mine is a recent acquisition but also a mystery. It has a serial number that starts 87.
I'd love to know more about its history.

I believe it transitioned between '98/'99.
I had a green '94 Q5 (srsly should have NEVAR sold) that was awesome with no rod, a '95 Q5 fretless unlined w/ no rod, and my prized '97 Q5 chechen/chechen with no rod.
Stefan Lessard (DMB) had a new green Q5 for their "Listener Supported" DVD, which was recorded in '98 IIRC, and his has the different logo at the neck/body joint, as well as the opening for the adjustment rod. So had to be close to around th en, since my '97 was rod-free.
