Modulus Mob

OK, OK.

Well things didn’t work out between me and this bass so to cut a long story short i’m In the market for another Q5 preferably a truss rod model, PM me if you know any availability. Cheers.
What exactly are we looking at there?
Peavey B-Quad 5 sans original pickups and electronics/piezos (my old bass).

I don't mind saying, i almost lost my head there for a minute. Brought out my Modulus Genesis 4. New strings. New batteries. Fresh and clean board. Plugged her in. Practiced last night with the band. Put it back in the case. When I got home, it went straight back into the heard. WTH was I thinking.. I don't play 4 string basses. Haven't for 20 years. I kept thinking I really don't hang out on the B string too much, I will just start back on my 4 banger. NOPE... WRONG!! I am on that B string way more than I realized. So, back out comes my Modulus Q5. It was fun while it lasted!!

I've been mostly a 5- or 6-string player for about 20 years myself, but have recently discovered the joys of BEAD tuning on a 4-string after picking up an old Steinberger L-2. Give it a shot!

Fits like a glove!

I had this Anvil ATA flight case custom built for my '88 Quantum-6 SPX back in the early '90s. I had recently noticed -- much to my surprise -- that the SPX did not fit in the stock Modulus hardshell case that came with my '96 Quantum-6 TBX, due to their radically different neck heels (and the fact that the TBX case is precisely form-fit to that neck heel). So last night I dug the Anvil case out of mothballs (I haven't used it in 4 or 5 years) just to make sure that the opposite wasn't true. Mercifully the TBX fits this case just fine. Good news for the upcoming European tour!

I would like to see a picture of the spx neck joint- i remember when they had the different models, but not what the actual difference was...

Also, glad to see you’re still enjoying the TBX- it’s a nice bass, just too much for me...

I don't have a pic handy, but it's the most traditional-looking of any Modulus neck joint I can recall. Looks very much like a typical old Fender: Squared-off body on the three sides of the neck pocket, a rectangular metal plate with four bolts (hex bolts rather than wood screws), the only thing particularly unique about it is that the back of the neck remains perfectly flat for a couple inches past the neck pocket. It's the combination of that flat section of the neck and the squared-off body around the neck pocket that prevents it from fitting in the form-fit TBX case...and that had me worried the TBX wouldn't fit in the Anvil case.

I'm not gonna lie, it may be too much for me! Definitely the widest neck of any bass I own, and hence far more difficult to control. For the first time in 45 years of playing bass I'm considering cheating [sic] and getting one of those fuzzy string mutes to prevent unwanted open string resonances. But I also view it as a challenge -- and/or an indication that I need to practice more. That sound though, holy crap, I don't think I could ever part with it! Freakin' amaze-balls...
