Modulus Mob

Does anyone have an output on the low side with their Barts + Aguilar inners on a Q5? I feel like my bass is a lower output than my passive p bass and there is no independent gain control inside the bass. I have already changed the battery.

I've thought this for a while, but over the weekend I borrowed a "backbeat" and noticed if I cranked the thing to full it wasn't giving me way too much vibration. But if I plugged my p bass in it was killing me.

It seems to be very nuanced. It's not low enough for most people to complain, but I feel like I'm getting too much noise trying to pull more brightness out of it.

How are your pickup heights? Have you tried raising them?

Just put my 1994 TBX 5 up for sale in the classifieds.

Very nice, I’m a big fan of those pickups and the Sadowsky preamp.

Did Modulus ever make 5 string versions of these? If so I may get one and do the same mods.

Closest thing available used would be a Flea/FU model in a JJ configuration, it was an option. I've seen them pop up on eBay and Reverb.

The Genesis model was a real nice J style 5 string, it's 35" scale and a hybrid CF/wood neck. Flea/FU is 34".

Genesis necks have a CF spine that runs the entire neck length, all the way to the tip of the headstock. The CF handles all the string tension, combined with wood for a more organic/traditional tone.

Nordstrand makes their J style pickups in Bart P2 and EMG 40 soapbar sizes, they call them "Jazz Bars". You could pop a pair into a Quantum........

I don't see anything about it on their website, but Modulus showed 5-string Jazzes at NAMM this winter:

When I saw these at NAMM (on the internet, I didn’t attend), I thought “It’s about damn time!” 5 string jazzes have only been popular for how long?

Better late than never, I guess...:bassist:

So, when it comes to the ABM bridge, I chose aluminum. I was told that there was no real tonal difference but much less weight. It is the one possible “what if” that is in my mind about my Q5. I have often thought that I should get a Brass bridge. Are they really that different? What are the pros and cons or just general impressions of these respective bridges? Thanks to everyone who gives their input.
Hey man I didn't notice anything different. I ordered a brand new solid Brass Hipshot A from Hipshot directly for mty Q6. When we took off the original older one I realized it was aluminum. For me I didn't mind adding the extra weight to the body as I play with a wide leather strap. I only care if I add weight to the headstock cause massive neck dive. I put in Resolites so this bass balances just fine on my lap. However weight is weight and the less is better wherever it is originating from. Flat out I can't tell a difference. You can rest easy. They say solid brass is superior and maybe some audiophile nerd can tell the difference or mayb it comes across on recording but as far as the tone or sustain ....sounds the same to me.

Quick question for you all. I have an 04 Q 6 with a Chechen board and the last couple set ups two different techs have called me frantic, (mind you I told them ahead of time middle position on truss rod feels loose and will only turn half way to either side and this was normal and part of the design) However the last two said they understood that but the issue was they couldn't quite get the neck completely flat, that there was some relief but not as straight as my othe
basses (non Modulus). The bass is set up perfectly for me and I like stupid low action. There is a little fret out buzz around the 15th fret and higher but it doesn't bother me. Have you heard of your Quantum necks (With) adjusting bar never getting completely Straight? Again I don't mind a little relief I just didn't know if this is a trend and it gets worse over time. It may have been like this the last 15 years and no one told me for all I know or the not straightening thing just started....I don't know.

Moreover the Techs said they couldn't turn the adjusting bar any further. So it's maxed out and not straight, it's close but not perfectly straight.
