Modulus Mob

Yeah, I just have always kind of had that feeling too. I think I’m gonna make the swap. I’ve been leaning that way for a while. Thanks for the input. And hey, I’ll never know if I don’t try it for myself.

does modulus use shielding paint when they finish a cavity usually? Its so weird, while installing my bqc last night, if the back of the balance pot, (where everythings soldered into and the ends pop out) touched the paint or the side of the cavity, no sound, if I spin it around so not touching anything fully on and working great! I am assuming its conductive paint and when its touching theres a short somewhere in the circuit? either that or I got a bad pot but I doubt thats the case

Pretty aure they do/did. My more recent ones (post 2k) have had the copper paint,

and I think they’re using the black paint now.

yes my theory was correct, from emg:

As for the shielding, we don’t recommend ever using shielding paint as it almost always causes problems. Basically, what is happening is that when those metal parts touch the shielding, you are shorting the signal to ground so you won’t get a good output. Our active stuff is already silent, so you really don’t need shielding anyways.

For everyone using a bqc. How do u have ur treble dip switch set too?

Uh... :::scratches head::: I honestly forgot that they even had DIP switches! No idea.

My '96 has the black shielding paint. My '88 came with none whatsoever (but when I upgraded the electronics I added copper foil shielding).

All three of my Modulus basses (FB4, FB5, Q5) have shielding paint and they were made between 2001 and 2004. All of them also have a grounding wire soldered to each pot that runs to the ground connection on the input jack. I've never had any noise problems or shorting that I could detect.

this part was hitting the paint and I think probably connecting some of the pcb together View attachment 3314994

That was the problem. No doubt. If you absolutely have to have it turned towards the shielding I would bet that you could stick something non-conductive between it and the cavity. Electrical tape will probably leave a weird stickiness on it over time, but anything else like a thin piece of closed cell foam would work.

Does anyone have an output on the low side with their Barts + Aguilar inners on a Q5? I feel like my bass is a lower output than my passive p bass and there is no independent gain control inside the bass. I have already changed the battery.

I've thought this for a while, but over the weekend I borrowed a "backbeat" and noticed if I cranked the thing to full it wasn't giving me way too much vibration. But if I plugged my p bass in it was killing me.

It seems to be very nuanced. It's not low enough for most people to complain, but I feel like I'm getting too much noise trying to pull more brightness out of it.

you running at 18 or 9 v? I found a hugeeee difference with barts between 18 and 9
