Modulus or Roscoe?

No one is making it any easier here. It seems that both basses are liked and there are allot of good pros and cons as to what people like about these basses. Here is another variable just to make it a little harder.
If it is possible, take your rig with you to see how the basses sound thru it. It is worth it, because your rig is part of the equation too. I vote for the Modulus, but I have not had a chance to play a Roscoe six string bass. Especially now, they really seem to have the kinks worked out.

I don't see myself being able to go back to Juan's any time soon, the shop is almost 3 hours from my house. And our schedules kind of conflict, I just lucked out yesterday cause I got the day off work.
I really liked the sound of the modulus, it was very warm and clear. The roscoe felt too light to me, and sounded a little too brittle, but then again, I only played one roscoe. So I'm sure not all sound like that. And I guess if I get one, and I don't like it, and I can always try to sell it to one of you guys on here

....I've heard Roscoe's described many ways but "a little too brittle" is a first. They're anything but brittle sounding....
and I've yet to hear what I would call a warm Modulus. Clear, yes, warm, no (although they're definitely warmer with the Barts than the EMG's).
Hey but as long as you buy used at a good price you'll be fine. If the Modulus doesn't work out you can sell and go for the Roscoe.

When I ordered my Q5 I tried models with EMG pups and Barts. The EMG pups have more sizzle and are a little harsher than the Barts. I found the Barts to be warm and clear. The one Roscoe that I have tried had a very unique mid range voice to it.
From the Roscoe and Quantum I would choose the Roscoe, because of the way they sound and look. They both probably play equally well, but I have only played a quantum and can't really say how a Roscoe plays. If you are entertaining other suggestions, I would try to find a used MTD 635. My 2 cents.
Addressing 6 strings specifically, I've owned both...I had a custom Roscoe fretless 6 made (in 1999?) and I bought a late 90's fretted Q6 a couple of years ago. Both are great, but I could not believe how easy the Q6 was to play. I don't regularly play 6's, the Roscoe was a great neck too, asymmetrical as an option, but the Q6 just came across as completely effortless to play. Pickups can always be swapped out later if needed...

Well, I havent seen many MTD 635's under 2000$ though, and with the Roscoe and Modulus, you occasionally see them. I hope I luck out and find a used Modulus at that price soon.
