Modulus Vertex?

If there are other choices than just black I think it will be a success...and Modulus finishes are always 5 steps above the rest. I have had sunburst basses before and never really liked them (Fender, off basses, etc), but when I got a sunburst Modulus VJ body...I was extremely impressed with the visual life it had in it.

Oh, and jpmod rocks!!!!! Great guy.

also the bass is top routed using the pickgaurd as the cover for the pots and such. Its a design that fender started to help with production costs and time saver too. Much easier to be able to prewire everything directly on the pickgaurd and then just screw everything in when needed. also makes for an easy bass to mod if someone would like to.

NOW I see your thought process! I personally have never modded a bass to that extent. I just have a hang up about spending that kind of money and tearing into an instrument.. Me and my crazy hang ups...:rollno:

where did it say it was MY thought process? i wouldnt personally route a bass that costs that much... but thats the idea people usually have behind darkstar mods.

i just pointed out the usual idea behind adding darkstar pickups since you made a comment about it not looking like there's much room to add anything.. if you look at any darkstar mods... you dont need room.. you MAKE room.

not everyone is satisfied with stock basses and not everywhere can afford to get a custom bass made for them.. guess some people have weird hang ups about wanting a certain tone.. but like the feel of other basses ;)

Thats why they did it.

Its was the call to how do you put that high end quality in more affordable package without comprise.

Modulus does not comprise their necks and IMHO are the best graphite necks in the planet.

These are the necks that are used on the Funk basses.

Five? no way!

I tried this bass out today at G Guitars in New Haven CT. Holy crap! I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with MG and have owned a 4 and a 5 SPi.

In a word, this bass rocks. In spite of the passive tone and single pickup this axe has serious mojo. It is a one trick pony, but the trick is pretty good. I'm not sure if it's the best bass for jazz, but you can cop some pretty cool jazz tones out of it anyway. For rock or punk or anything else aggressive it is just nuts. No issues being heard with this bass. They had black and grey at the shop, and to be honest, although black is more traditional, they grey had a kinda neat look that grew on me. At $1999 it is a bit steep, but if you like the aggressive tone it really delivers. I ran it thorough a nemisis head (eh - ok) and a bag end 212 birch (650 used - someone please buy that before I do!) Before that one of the shophands played it thru an epifani head and a genz 410 and epi 115. It really sounded great thru all of the rigs. Even the weird look is starting to grow on me....:D

I played one of these guys at NAMM this year at the Bag End booth, and I thought it played really well!! As a fan of the Funk Unlimited over the Quantum, it was a really nice bass and my only distaste about it was playing sitting down!! The body was a little hard to manage when "poppin' a squat" but I think standing up and playing it would be awesome. It had a good modulus feel and tone, plus it looks really awesome.

i didn't find it too hard to play sitting, but i see the point. FWIW, it seems the 34" scale might tame some of the modulus "zing". I may be tripping, but it also seemed to sound a bit nicer than the other music man pickup position style MG basses. That's a big compliment from me, as i prefer most basses with two pickups. From the website i gather there is an active option or upgrade kit for 200 available. That might be neat, but if it were me i'd keep the passive tone, add the active kit, and throw in an active/passive switch. My old tobias has a passive tone and active/passive bartolini setup, and the passive tone control is incredibly useful both on my bass and the vertex. IMO, that simple control is something we've lost sight of. I know there are a ton of passive only enthusiasts here, but i like both. How hard is it really to throw in a switch and a good old passive rolloff to an active bass? (active obligate pickups excluded, but even then an extra passive tone might be nice, and yeah, i know about the inherent tone-suck, but cutting the high end actively just doesn't get the same vibe) Was that too many commas? :p

It worked. I got the grey one. I hope this email hits the right person to get some help.

The shop swapped black Modulus hardware on it instead of the chrome. It is strung with a set of DR black beauties. It looks like a million bucks. I saw it and just basically bought it on Modulus good name and flew. It arrived today (shipped in hard shell case.)

Problem! It has terrible fret buzz. Unplayable.

The action is set way high and yet it buzzes like crazy. The relief eyeballs good, but I need numbers. The bridge is totally topped out, as high as you can get it. It has taper core strings that make things worse. The pickup is set too low as well.

I cannot find a Modulus site that has any of the setup specs for the bass like you do at Warwick (still my first love.) Very frustrating company to work with so far. I got the bass out of town, so there is no going back to the dealer and I can't find a Modulus dealer listing. It may be the best bass in the world, but if you can't get any information on taking care of it then who cares. The nut seems to have been cut too deeply for the strings or it has incorrect strings. The nut is very thin. I mean Very Thin. It appears to be a black Tusq type of plastic. Feels soft, but it may be plenty strong. Only time will tell on that one. I have more than 3/8" of string-neck clearance at the last fret. It still buzzes and sounds like crap. Not sure what to do now. It's under warranty, but who knows where a warranty station is. Very troubling from a company that I always wanted one of their products.

So I am extremely unhappy with the company so far. :help:
