I know they made a larger version that seems to have been talked about a little here, but anyone have any info?

Years ago I used filters a lot. I owned a vintage mutron III and to this day nothing really sounds all that much like it, despite everything being a clone of it. I tried all the big ones, and something about the aggressive yet musical "pop" in the mutron I still have not found elsewhere.

This one appears to have that bite I've always been looking for. fairly priced at $150 new.

so, anyone?

I'd love a quality bass demo.

(or recommendations for other filters as i've been out of the game for a while?)

I've not tried the Mojohand but looks intriguing. If you want a Mu-Tron III in a modern pedal then the Mu-Tron Micro-Tron III or IV (made by Mike Beigel the original pedals inventor) is very close to the original, if just a touch cleaner.

i've heard demos where that one sounds really great. at $500, it's just not worth it to me. Back when I had a vintage mutron (10 years ago maybe?) I think i bought and sold it for around $350. too bad they've gone way up since then.

My goal specifically with a filter is to have the intensity. i don't necessarily need a mutron III clone, i just happen to love how powerful that sound is.

I absolutely love the old DOD FX25/25B filters and will buy one of those if nothing else cool turns up. they are monster filters with their own attitude, and lots of it.

anyway...

would love to see one of us buy this mojo hand because it really, really looks to have that sound nailed. then again, everything claims to nail that sound, and I personally have yet to be convinced.

i put some thoughts in the description.

long story short:

this is an exceptionally close copy to the mutron III bubble funk sound. I've tried an awful lot of the "copies," and this one really is as good as it gets. it's funky, it's useable, it's a modern pedal (power supply, bypass, size, intuitive controls) and i could see a lot of people dumping their q trons, MXR filters, and so on for this.

the downsides:

a little volume loss. Huge bummer for me. In my experience, a filter should be louder (if not much louder!) than the bypass signal. There is no subtle way I enjoy using these units. when I stomp on that switch, I want to destroy my speakers, cut through the mix, and seriously bring the funk, as if my name is "bootsy baba!"

So, i think for my personal filter needs i'm going back to a vintage DOD since mutron III units seem to be going for $800 or so now.

I don't think everyone would feel as I do about the volume, many if not most players would either disagree about it or not notice/care. but, it's what I hear. at least I'm aware that i know my needs are maybe a little too specific.

not that any of us care, but if I was a guitar player looking to do the jerry garcia stuff, this would 100% be a gift from the filter gods.

I have one of these. Just my second filter after briefly owning an EHX Bassballs. I feel like I was a lot happier with it the day I got it than I am now. Right out of the box it was giving me exactly the sound I was looking for but once I started twisting knobs I could never seem to get back to that first setup. It mostly doesn’t sound like it’s doing enough when I turn it on now, even when compared to the ever so simple Bassballz

According to their site, the pedal has an internal trim pot for output level.
