Mojotone "Musicman Clone" Preamp?

I've searched but found almost nothing here. The price is nice-- $99. To a budget-minded hobbyist, it's tempting.

Question: Have you heard this one, or would there be something in the lower half of the price range that you're more enthusiastic about?

Background: I don't own a Stingray. I have a Bart MM4CBC in an Ibanez Mikro 5-string, with a Bart soap bar BC4CBC-B at neck. I like this interaction passive and now I want to add a pre. My objective is a Stingray-like instrument with the option of blending in a little neck tone. Perhaps this is mongrelizing the aesthetic. You're free to say so.

There are other preamp options: Audere, Bart, Noll, Nordstrand. That's about as high as I want to spend. I have Audere in a Jazz. It's nice, but I'm open to others.

Thank you.

Edit: I use this bass for smooth-jazz material. It records well, and has the right amount of clank-lite, when needed

I grew up playing Musicman Stingrays and Ernie Ball MMSR's. Still play a '79 Musicman Stingray and an early 1990's 3 band MMSR. There's many well made commercially available aftermarket "Musicman" style preamps. In my experience the one that sounds and behaves most like the late '70's original is the Mojotone 2 band 3 knob.

Being that the OP opened this thread almost three years ago, it's probably safe to assume that he figured out a solution for his preamp needs. ;)

I hope so.

Some people, looking for helpful information are lead to these old threads. I posted my comment from a helpful place.
Well you certainly helped me... I used the search function before starting my own thread and found what I needed in your post.

Funny how some people whine when you don’t use the search, and then other people whine when you actually give future users something to search for.

I like the Nordstrand MM preamp I bought many years ago...But cannot compare to other Stingray preamps...It sounds good compared to my 20th Anniversary SR5 which Is fantastic....I was left with an extra hole...So I installed an EMG vari mid EQ...work very nicely together.

Probably neither sound like a 70s Stingray...but you can get a good Louis Johnson or Bernard Edwards sound.

Absolutely, thank you for following up. The OP is definitely not the only person who is going to be looking for this info. :)

It's funny because when someone aks a question there's often a righteous reponse of "search the forum, this question has been asked already!" Now, here, when you're adding information that people can search for, you get a righteous response of "this is an old thread!". You can't win! :D

Ain't that the truth?
What brought me to Talkbass many, many years ago was google searching how to change the mid frequency on a Carvin 501B preamp (found on the late 90s/early '00s basses). It was an old thread, and was mostly filled with speculation, but I added to it with my concrete and verified results. There was a grumble of 'zombie thread,' but I find that verified, good info should be welcomed.
