Monday 9/6/10: Pile-Up

An axiom for myself which I give lip service to, yet have constant difficulty applying:

Do what's in front of you right NOW.

And it's corollary: Tackle what you can actually control.

In addition to three music directing clients, sessions on the books, and the ongoing haze of M83 writing/demoing/tracking, I have about fourteen songs (due within the next week or so) amongst three different artists sitting in my downloads folder, waiting for me to set up PT sessions, record multiple takes of bass, compile, prepare, then upload.

And plenty of personal stuff/inbox overflow to handle as well.

In other words, it's getting to be quite challenging to confront it all. I'd rather go for a hike. Or work on my house.

Alas, no. The way out is through. So I must get off my ass and go get it all done.

You can always outsource . . . (wink wink, nudge nudge)

but seriously - I work for a busy film composer and do a lot of set up stuff for him. It's a role I wasn't hired for, but have sort of made on my own. Get a guy to set up your PT sessions, chart out the tunes and comp/mix/compile/send etc when your done. All thats left for you is to open up the session and play . . . I bet there are a thousand guys that would jump all over that (including me!) and can be done remotely . . .

In this industry, right now - busy is RARE! Busy is good. (and not for nothing - you're in demand for a reason!! talk about the "right now", you're exactly where you should be! on top!!)
