Mono Bag Question

I don't know why the M80 is so successful and popular. The bottom padding is a joke, as I've had 2 or 3. Gator Go-Pro or what I have now, and three of them...Roadrunner Highway soft cases. So much better than Mono (aside from not being waterproof/resistant).

Maybe the more recent iterations are different, but based on my old M80 I totally agree. I've used t-shirts and socks to add padding to the bottom of the bag because it's so lacking.

Can't say. I can say I have the Vertigo and have no padding issues. It's fantastic.

The Vertigo is a completely different design, especially the "boot" portion (which offers much better protection than the M80). I'd consider getting a Vertigo, but man these cases have gotten expensive!

I have a Vertigo, which is my main gig bag. If I need to carry an extra bass, I bring my Mono Classic. I like this as a second option since the backpack straps can be tucked away on the Classic, which makes for a more comfortable hand carry.

Mono Dual works for me. Used to carry two basses (everywhere but practice) and decided I'd rather have them on my back than one in each hand or one on my back and the other in hand. It replaced a Music Area bag that I normally would use, which was quite heavy for a single bag.

Even if I'm only bringing one bass I still use it, just because everything else is already in the bag. All accessories live in the dual bag, and nothing ever gets left behind because it is always in the bag. Nothing extra to carry or leave behind. Pedalboard in one hand, basses on my back, and a hand free to carry my drinks/open doors. Way easier to navigate a crowd with the basses on my back as well. They can get heavy depending on what I have back there but I'm a big enough guy that it doesn't bother me any.

Putting only one bass in the dual M80 is not a good idea. When I did that the end pin eventually punctured the end of the bag. That‘s because the single bass does not sit right (stay) in its compartment.

If you’re consistently using two basses, I’d go with the dual Mono bag. You already have a single Vertigo for situations where you only need one bass.

Thank you to everyone for the replies and the conversation. Someone said this thread was people giving their own opinions for very personal reasons, and I definitely agree, but I was soliciting those opinions and was curious about them. I ended up pulling the trigger on a new single guitar bag, but ended up not going for the Mono, or the RBX, or even the Gator. I went with the Roadrunner Premium, here is a link:

I decided to get the D'Addario Backline backpack to carry all my other gear to the shows. So since I'd just carry the basses by hand, I figured getting another single was the way to go. So why the Roadrunner and not the Mono. I've had it before, it's really nice, it's good for occasional use where the Mono will be more heavily used. And the kicker is that a good friend of mine works at GC, they had both the D'Addario and the Roadrunner in stock, so I bought both for less than the price of one Mono Vertigo.

If you are always going to bring two, get the double bag. Single bags give the option of only having to lug one around or leaving the other bag in the van if it's a backup. Similar to argument for / against getting a 2x15 or 2 1x15s.

I know this is a little late as I read through the thread and you've already purchased, however I'll post my response for posterity.

I'll do most, if not all load in. Will mostly be traveling by car, sometimes by trailer. Rarely will I be taking mass transit.

For the last decade I've been using a Vertigo and M80 Dual, depending on the gig. I have zero complains about the M80. It's showing wear where it touches the ground when I lean against things, but that's a lot of weight resting on one spot and it's 10 years old. If it fails I'd buy a new one.

That said, I'm a recent convert to an ENKI XB-2. Functionally, if you're not using public transit, it's just straight up easier to use on stage than a backpack style bag.

I still use the Vertigo where appropriate, however for anything that requires two basses the M80 has been retired.

I've looked at these in the past. This is something I might look into for the future. Especially if the cover band really takes off and starts gigging like we hope it can, It'll come in handy. But that would be a 2026-2027 purchase.
