I hear this a lot, but I'm rarely impressed by these only-famous-on-youtube cats to be honest. There's a ton of fast slap wankers and Flea kiddies with millions of views, don't mean nothin'. Mono Neon is one of about two I've seen who actually have the taste and creativity of a professional.
Well, anybody can post themselves on YouTube, make an instructional series, etc.

I agree it's pretty stupid. His playing is enough, save the gimmicks for the crappy players
The thing is, it would detract from his great tone and such, because the 1st impression would be "Who's that guy all dressed-up in costume??"
OTOH- On stage, Aaron Mills (Cameo) is hilarious in his get-up, as is Charlie and of course Larry & his cod-piece, but Jeeesh-
When I saw them live not too long ago- He was...Well, he was Aaron Mills, which is/was SICK!
Of course, Cameo has made their bones & is known for all that.

obviously a great player, however some of us here at TB actually were playing these tunes nightly because they were apart of the sets you played if you were in a top 40 band and what is ironic is that had we attempted to play all those runs that he's playing, the band leader would give you a funny look no matter how dope it sounded. lol

For sure, and that's the difference between a solo bass video or solo-type performance and being a GREAT groove player like Chuck Rainey e.g within a Rhythm section. And its a BIG diff!.

Haven't heard that from him, haven't sourced it, but I tend to agree- Playing speaks for itself, unless asked, other philosophies etc. don't really factor in, at least to me.
Definately an artist, which is rare...saw him last night in denver with sput on drums from snarky puppy. Absolutely killing it in time, tone and taste! Backs the look up and it is very impressionable with his level of groove of skills. He plays bass in the bass range, very rarely goes beyond the 12th fret.
He is the best bass filler I've heard since AJ, though! The rythmn section was a freight train!

He’s awesome period, a genuine artist. I believe his visual style is him. Not a gimmick, he’s just an off-the-beaten-track kinda guy. I also believe he was poised to be Prince’s new bassist when Prince left us.

A lot of us were forced to write with the right hand in kindergarten and elementary school. Some play in the standard configuration like I do. Others play a flipped guitar like my guitarist and others play guitars re-stringed for a left handed player.
I don’t think anyone mentioned his race. It wouldn’t matter either way, at least in MY opinion. I don’t believe in that BS anyway.
I SERIOUSLY hope that this thread does not go in that direction....
