I don't use what are commonly called "high-end" cables, although performancewise I'd say they're probably about as low in capacitance as any other good cables of comparable length.
This is a key post, and quite frankly much more helpful than the 'wink wink nod nod' sort of Monster cable bashing by all the 'in the know industry insiders'.
I'm not a Monster fan, nor a Monster hater
The key here is that virtually all cables sound the same. The ONLY exception I've ever heard is one particular Monster cable (out of the many, many models that they make), the Monster Bass cable that is the subject of this thread. Due, I assume, to higher capacitance, the Monster Bass does sound 'darker' than the other 20 or 30 cables I have experience with (that all sound identical).
While Monster's aggressive and over the top marketing is somewhat silly, their basic cables are reliable, moderately priced, nice warranty, spiffy look, and sound (shock) the same as everyone elses
I agree spending a ton of money on a Tara Labs or 'super high end Monster' is somewhat silly. However, the basic $30 or so Monster, George L, etc. cables are reliable, have good warranties, and are as good as anything else IMO and IME.
