I love the distortion the MXR Bass D.I. + gives me in terms of tone, but i just want to kick it up a notch with a drive pedal (not a boost since a-i don't want to boost my clean signal: that's already done with the MXR 10 band Graphic EQ, b-i'd want to have a drive pedal to just have that function if i need slight dirt or something less hectic).

Looking for options, opinions etc etc.

edit: Something other than BOSS ODB-3, Sansamp bass driver & other tech 21 stuff. Just a simple drive it doesn't have to be specific for bass but i'm not against them completely. Just something that can give me a different dirt tone without it being too bassy/muffled or too thin/lack of depth.

Drive... so many options. I"m not that well-versed in OD, but last fall, went through a Pigtronix Bass Fat Drive (good, but darkish IMO), a Vulcan OD (very good), a Digitech Bass Driver (surprisingly good !), TC MojoMojo (also darkish, but good), Fulltone mosfet BassDrive which I loved, but finally settled on the PBDDI's drive, which sounds very good with my current set-up.

I still have the Digitech and Fulltone, but they are for sale. For me, it doesn't make any sense to keep a pedal I won't use that much and anyway, there's no space left on my board (not going for a bigger board).

Not as of yet, but hopefully once everything is complete. After my overdrive/distortion shootout, i'll be focusing on delay shootouts. Might have found some good ones that offer the reverse effect - i'll a/b them against my personal fav nemesis source audio delay xD

So i did a shootout of various overdrive pedals & some were better than others. For the life of me, i can't stand boss products. They sound thin & too fuzz like without bite, for my music & tone they just dont work. Played through some digitech stuff (tone driver, bad monkey, hot rod distortion) The Tone driver just sounded weak, the other two had a bit more capability in giving a boost to the distortion channel on the bass D.I.+, also tried Ibanez tube screamer, proco turbo rat & dunlop wayhuge saucy overdrive. Proco was cool but i've got a friend who has the standard rat & that sounds better on its own. Tube screamer wasn't great, i kinda expected it to be very subtle (since it is a transparent overdrive - but i was looking for something that could give me a slight crunch without being chaotic like the bass D.I.) The way huge was the best of the bunch but when i went back to the bad monkey & tweaked it slightly, they sounded the same for 100$ less.

As for Chorus: I've tried the new Tc electronic afterglow & wow! I'm actually blown away by the tone it has. Very nice shimmer, very big sounding & crazy with all three knobs dialled in. Tomorrow morning & night i'll be testing out my friends mxr stereo chorus just to see & hear how it sounds with 1/2 my full rig, & with distortion kicked in (i know how it sounds on guitar since this pedal is my friend's who let me borrow it for a few days). IF i like how the EQ sets & the chorus sounds, i'll bite the bullet on the used one, if not i'll go for the TC Afterglow. Good part is that both are yellow, i kinda dig that about these chorus': it's not blue like the water effect you can describe it as, it's yellow something striking. IDK just think it's cool amid all my black pedals XD

Update: Afterglow wins :D The Mxr stereo chorus did the trick but TBH it felt limited after i had found a good setting. Reacted quite well with my distortion, but in all, it sounds much better in stereo mode than it does mono, at least on bass since when my friend uses it on guitar it sounds massive! The Afterglow did just what i wanted it to do & more, so i'll be buying it tomorrow :P with the smaller size, i can fit either another pedal on my board or have a small box filled with picks & such for stage emergency :) I'm pretty happy, i finally found a chorus that suits my tone!

I'm very much pleased with this afterglow Chorus by TC electronic. The new line of affordable all analog (except for a few digital pedals such as a digital delay, compressor & boost) pedals. At first i thought with the added EQ, the Stereo chorus would have the advantage, but to my surprise it wasn't all that great, even sometimes sounding too muffled or too thin depending on where you set the bass & treble knobs accordingly. Intensity only started having effect about half way up where afterglow starts around 1/4 up. The overall effect (rate & depth or rate & width on the mxr) are both good, but TC has a little extra game to dial in where the MXR is limited. It also worked better in stereo mode on bass (on guitar, my friend's signal sounds massive with his overdrive kicked in & all run through mono). This gives me a bit more space for either another pedal (i'm thinking something along either a reverb or something never thought of on bass that could work for my tone) or just a simple access box filled with picks & etc i might need on stage. Now it's just to fiddle around with the overall settings to achieve a tone i like with the chorus. The EQ is jumping back & forth to see what i need to enhance when bouncing between basses with various output levels in terms of pickups {I need to sit down one full day & just go through al my current basses & find various settings on the EQ for each, write everything down & then once it's all tallied up, i can find a rough ball park or what needs to be enhanced, cut or left at 0} I'm pretty good for the Bass D.I.+ in terms of general EQ & also Dirt level. Chorus is pretty straight forward, there's not much to tweak on it: i just need to find a good setting to bring out on my main gear.

Power source: yes, mxr brick simple, compact & hidden under the Bass D.I. shelf. Intergrated D.I. probably not, since my bass head doesn't have a Direct output, it requires a box to begin with (which kinda sucks, just mic up my cabinet & be done). But i'm probably going to trade one of my basses for another bass amp head (hopefully i can find the same as my current - peavey 120 century series bass head, or a GK RB400 or ashdown bass head) Either of those 3 & i'm happy. If none, but i find like a guitar or another bass that i prefer at the same shop, i'll trade for that & pay a bit of cash extra for the balance xD

Love it! Sounds great, the new Bucket brigade chorus by tc electronic has the perfect amount of wave to my bass tone in both clean & dirty. Super simple, i don't really care about having the power supply wires like that. Still need to do some minor adjustments & create the lid for this box, but i'm pretty much done!

Oh nice! That's that new series of TC Electronics pedals right? Very cool that they finally have top jacks on their smaller enclosures.

I dont mind the side jacks but the top is very nice. Love this pedal.

House-cleaning has some value... found my old Dell laptop that I was sure I had scrapped because it wadn't working anymore. Fired it up and oh surprise, it works and oh more surprise, it had a few old pedalboard pics.

Here's the biggest I ever pic'ed. That PT-PRO went full at one point, but I don't have a pic showin' it.
