Moog is at it again!

About half an hour ago I watched this for a few minutes, then gave up when I didn't see a joke forming. Impatience is not a virtue apparently.

Maybe the joke is that everyone's going to think it's a joke, but in fact it's real? A clever scheme by Moog to keep people from buying their product.

If it's a joke, it's a lame one (hint: sustainers already exist).

I should clarify: I'm not saying this is a lame invention, because I suspect the Moog guitar is hexaphonic; that is, each string has its own pickup and sustainer. Regular sustainers have a hard time sustaining chords without one or two notes winning out over the others; the Moog should have no problem with this.

What I meant was that this sustainer guitar, while cool and the only one of its kind, is not very revolutionary, and is totally within the realm of possibility. In other words, this is something that Moog could easily make and that many people would find useful.

Now there's a concept I like. I just hope that the pickups and electronics will be sold without the guitar, for two reasons: 1) The guitar in questions, though I haven't seen the whole if it, seems to be far from my aesthetic cup of tea, and 2) I want to have endless sustain on tap in my Jaguar Bass VI...

If it's hexaphonic then it should be much easier to adapt to bass I think. Particularly if there is a kit -- just take off the cover, change the spacing and maybe up the power.

Also, the dampening feature is pretty cool. It might make a bass guitar sound more like an upright.

You should look into a Sustainiac. It is not hexaphonic, so it may not be quite as good at sustaining 6-note chords as this Moog guitar, but it will certainly be cheaper (and there's a good chance you don't need to sustain 6-note chords on a bass VI).

Also, when is MysticBoo going to come eat his hat in this thread? We've all been made to look silly on the net, man, no need to be too ashamed to admit it... ;)

This year's April Fool's prank is effects-related, but not a pedal:

http://www.moogmusic.com/

It's the flash video at the beginning. It's a bit long.

The quotes at the end are pretty funny in the context of the video, too. :D

It's not joke, I am not allowed to tell ya more about it but a friend of mine is a moog power dealer and he hinted me after frankfurt about such a thing.

Can't wait to see it for real, it's gonna be cool.
