Just curious if anyone's used them as they don't seem to be mentioned here at all. I've only seen them on sale through an Aussie store who puts them on all the basses they sell. They're a little cheaper than EB strings here and I wanted to know if people thought they were worth it.

Moonshiner strings?

I've spent a lot of time here in the Strings section for the last ten years and I don't recall the name "Moonshiner" mentioned even once.
Maybe this is your chance to boldly go where no one has gone before and do a review on them?
First thing I thought of was:

which purports on the back of the package: "Made in the hills of Tennessee and cured with Appalachian moonshine" ... which ... I'm not sure if that's actually literally true or not, but doesn't exactly make me want to try them. Prices seem quite reasonable though.

I wish I had enough experience in strings and stuff to make a review but I'm not really qualified in any way, the only thing I can compare it to at the moment are some one year old regular slinkies lol.
Yea, that's the one. They say made in usa but I don't see them sold anywhere in the us which is strange to say the least. Maybe they aren't actually made in the us? Who knows.
Those aren't the ones I'm talking about but they seem pretty cool, maybe the moonshine makes them similar to coated strings just more alcoholic and less effective.
Why is it strange? If you want your own brand strings, they have to be made somewhere.
I didn't mean an expert review. All I'm suggesting is you go ahead and try them yourself and let us know what you like and don't like about them. How do they sound to your ears compared to the Slinkies? How do they feel under your fingers? Stiff or flexible, smooth or rough... etc. Just a personal assessment.
Well the label is really cool. You'll have to try them and report back here. They don't have any 5 string sets so I'm out but they are probably just fine.
Hmm, as in the shop's own brand of strings? Never thought about that. Maybe someone should start up an Australian string brand made in Australia, I'd buy.
I'll make a short review I guess, as I already have a set but it's going to be so scuffed as it's like, 2 month old moonshiners against a year old EB on two different basses. I could take the time to like put them on the same bass and stuff but I should be spending more time playing them and studying lmao.
Ok, so they're a little higher tension but a little smoother. Tonewise they were a little dull in comparison to the brand new EBs but that could be a result of this particular bass not being sold for months by the time I had scooped it up. I guess if you like downtuning to say D standard or just don't mind slightly higher tension but care about the smoothness, they're pretty good. However, if you don't live in AUS, the shipping prices are probably insane so. Overall, not terrible, pretty ok. Just take everything I've said here with a large grain of salt, I haven't even played flatwounds.
