Morbid bass thought?

Along those very lines of thought, my father died on Wednesday. One of his lifelong passions was open cars, mostly Fords. I was almost born in a 67 stang convertible. In my early childhood, he had a 66 Lincoln convertible, with a 460 under the hood, suicide doors, the whole nine. Since 1978, he's owned Beatrice, a 1959 Ford Skyliner retractable hardtop. Anyway, the point of this story is that there is a junkyard in our home state of Minnesota, called Windy Hill. We both lost plenty of knuckle skin, probably said a few choice words over the years while pulling intake manifolds and trim from a few doner cars at Windy Hill. Some of my father's ashes will be scattered there.

. . . . . and then years later, the bass (coated with your remains) gets sold as a 'vintage piece', and the buyer decides the thick finish is inhibiting the tone and sands it off . . . . . . ash body to ash body, dust to dust . . . . .

I told my wife that I wanted to be cremated and have my ashes flown back to England and scattered on the sacred turf of Lords Cricket Ground in London.....

"Yes darling...whatever you want" she said smiling sweetly at me....

As I left the room, happy that my final resting place was sorted, I caught a reflection of her in the window as she turned to my son and mouthed the word..."Dumpster"....:(

Loooonnngg time ago I was so enthralled by playing bass (still am) that I had the eccentric idea that when my time ends, I'd like to be cremated and my ashes stirred into a gloss lacquer and my main player gets a new paint job with that lacquer to hand down to my child if I were to have one. Well, had 3 kids and the idea revolted the wife and all the kids so had to backtrack and say I was just kidding about that story...but I was not....at the time I thought it.

Kind of like the guy who gets buried in his favorite sports car.
Would not do it now though.....maybe.
Anything can almost go when or what we get buried in or on.

is this eccentric?

Cremation results in a bunch of ashes. Ashes are mostly carbon. Some places will turn your ashes into diamonds (a form of carbon). Graphite is another form of carbon. Perhaps you can become the reinforcement rods on several bass necks in your after life?

I love my carbon reinforced necks. Now I'm kinda wondering who's in there.

I saw a story recently about the diamond thing. They also talked about places that will press your ashes into a vinyl record (and that the record can contain a recording of your voice).

Talk about going down in flames....well my kids are going to have to be thrilled sorting through thousands of recordings I worked on.

Twenty-five years ago I wanted my wife to have me cremated and have a small container hang in a chain around her neck so I could be close to... Well, you get the idea..... I sorta dropped that idea when I realized these days it have to be a reaaalllly long chain.

I had an elderly client that died, and his wife had him cremated. She told me she had to take him from Virginia to the family plot on Long Island for burial. She also told me she was taking the ashes from her first husband, on the same trip, and wondered how John would have reacted to going on a long car trip with her first husband..then offered an evil giggle

Recently had a friend who had a pair of drum sticks cremated with his remains.

He passed away at age 83. Started playing around age 8 or 10.
Became a high school band director and fine arts director among other musical accomplishments.
