Double Bass more botters

snippet from a conversation between myself and a college roommate:

"there's 'batter,' 'better,' 'bitter,' and 'butter...' but there's no 'botter.' we need a definition for 'botter.'"

"how 'bout... the stuff you find under the lid of something when you open it. like yogurt or cottage cheese or sauce."

"i like it."

your thread title made me think of this. great playing, by the way! thanks for sharing. :)

Great job Fergus!

One major comment is to keep your vibrato going all the time. one you get that, then you can turn it off when you choose, but it seems like something you just do out of convenience now. Another comment would be to ensure you use even weight on the bow. often your bow changes and sound at the tip are not as good as at the frog (for all of the standard french bow reasons).

You are very musical, and it is obvious you have spent a lot of time working on your sound in this piece. Sometimes I wish for more obvious phrasing, and more phrasing in general. Don't take it for granted that there is a lot of phrasing written in, you obviously have the musical talent to add more yourself, so take advantage.

sounds awesome man,

Alex

Thanks Alex. All good points.

The phrasing is unfortunately tied up with the relentless plastic midi piano pounding away in the background, but I will try to get more ebb and flow into the phrasing in general.

I was told by my principal last year that I have a tendancy to crescendo unconsciously on up bows and I learned this piece last month to work on just that. Unfortunately, as I watch the video, I can see it's still there. Another thing to work on.

Continuous vibrato is one thing I'm always harping on about so.. guilty as the policeman caught robbing a bank!

BTW very good obsrevations. Thanks for that and of course the compliments too!
