More IEM questions. But really...

Regular sized iPad.

Thanks Joe.. that's what I use mostly.. but I'm either on Behringer/Midas, QSC Touchmix, A&H QU, Mackie DL, Yamaha CL, Soundcraft or equivalent apps, but have not used the Presonus app before.
Can't speak to ease of use on that one, but I AM generally able to do some minimal adjust with (always on) iPad during a song while playing an open string or holding a note.
Not ideal obviously, but possible.
I have my iPad sitting/screwed on top of a separate mic stand (so I can move it out of the way when I don't need it) attached with a generic GC (proline Tablet) mount. Being always on, I can reach over and swipe left or right (to move channel layouts), adjust pan or channel level!

So a few things to be aware of:

Main Faders are grey/white


FX Faders are Purple


AUX/BUS are Yellow


Please note that channel one Kick was select, which shows pre gain, hlf, gate, comp, EQ, and Limiter.
FWIW anybody (Soundperson and Performers) can change, so be aware and let the Sound Person deal with it.

Use the Arrow by the MAIN to move the mono and main faders out of the way


Use the GROUP button to help your mix and here how

IF nothing shows up use the ADD GROUP to set up your custom group
But hope your seeing group like DRUMS


Guitar Group with Bass

Vocal Group


So instead of looking at 16/24/32/64 Channels of inputs, Groups help break it down to mix easier.

After you get your group level together, you can then use the GROUP MASTERS
EX. DRUM Group MASTER fader with Move all fader level in your Drum Group
same go for guitar, keys, vocal, and other


Now to the outputs
which should be the first thing IEM USERS Select, so not to mess up thing for the FOH/audience/sound person

Selecting your Aux (Please note that the top changed to your aux with HLF, gate, comp, EQ and Limiter.
These Users can change as it will only affect there IEM Mix)

note the EQ is no but the Comp is off(their is a on/off button by each gate, comp, EQ, and limiter


FWIW I sometime use the comp gain to boost up the signal to my IEM, So I can turn down my pack


Also be Aware of the AUX PRE 1, PRE 2, AND POST
From Presonus:

• Pre1 - (Pre-fader) Audio is sent to the Aux mix directly after the Preamp/Gain from the Main Mix layer. FAT Channel adjustments and Fader position from the Main mix are not included in the signal.
• Pre2 - (Pre-fader) Audio is sent to the Aux mix directly after the FAT Channel adjustments. Gain, EQ, Comp, Gate and Limiter are all included in the signal to the Aux layer. Fader position from the Main Mix has no bearing on the signal into the Aux.
• Post - (Post-fader) Audio is sent to the Aux mix after Gain, FAT Channel adjustments, and Main mix fader-position. All information is included in the signal.

I appreciate all of that BIGTIME and will look into it on Sat. Right now I'm having a problem with that app those as all features outside of the levels are locked. My soundguy who runs it said he's not sure whats up with that, but we were having bigger issues at the time I asked. Do you know how it can be locked or unlocked? I reloaded the app to no avail.

Have Sound Person double check that its set for your aux output( for my Example I used 3-4 )

UPDATE:

I learned something last night and realize now I'm at a crossroads.

I have a cold (tested negative for Covid) and took a Dayquil to get through yesterday. First set was absolutely unbearable. My tinnitus kicked in and the ringing was louder than music in my IEMs and the stage. I had to literally play by watching the kick drum (he has clear drums) and trusting in my memory of the material. My brain went off in a bad direction thinking pretty much "this is it." My music career is about to come to a screeching halt as this is no longer fun, at all - and its making me deaf.

A few songs into the 2nd set all of a sudden EVERYTHING CHANGED. I was able to hear everything, pretty clearly too outside of the ringing that stayed but became bearable. The torture was over, and I thought maybe my eardrums could only take so much and something popped or something? When we were done, I asked our sound guy if he changed anything during the set and he said no. Then he remembered and said, "Oh yeah. They asked me after a couple of songs to bring down the house volume." Emmmmer Effffffer...

Our last set the ringing torture got worse and worse, and by the end of the night I could hear nothing again.

He said he always pumps up the volume in the end. And now I know why I always dread our last sets.

Now I have to make a decision. I talked to him, I talked to the main BL, and I don't know what the next step should be. I love this band. I get paid excellently and have roadies. I get to play songs I always wanted to play but never got a chance, and well yeah...

I may detail this one in the band management section. If my guys refuse to play at lower volumes, or if the customs don't make a BIG difference, this may be the end of this chapter in my musician experience.

Pretty sure this higher volume thing is something new, after Covid, too.

I was told though that only on one person can have access to those functions and he has to give them to the BL/lead singer. Not sure if that's entirely true or whether he just doesn't want to figure out how to give me access, but they've been pretty honest with me about stuff like this.

Are you saying your MONS volume is tied to your FOH volume? That is messed up. You should tell the band leader that you need to have that fixed or you will be looking for another band. You need to protect your hearing at all costs!

The PA is always just a few feet to my right, as is the sub. And then 8 out of 10 gigs I have a wedge in front of me for horns.

I have my own mix.

The house volume of my band has gotten louder over time, or my tinnitus and hearing problems have gotten much worse. I can't handle the outside bleed from my IEMs... and I'm struggling at coming to a compromise.

Looking for another band isn't really an option. I earn in one gig with this band what I'd make in 5 or 6 with any other, I never have to unload, load or set up an amplifier, I get along with and LIKE everybody in my band, and they're all super nice people. I also get to eat at hundreds of cocktail hours and play to clubs where we don't have to advertise, beg friends, or bring anyone. And those clubs are always filled to capacity. Pretty certain this is the last band doing covers that I'll ever play in, as I'm admittedly now spoiled rotten.

Getting back to original music in order to save my ears is intriguing though...

So, just a thought.

What are the chances the stage could he rearranged a little. Could you swap sides with someone else? That way at least the horn wedge wouldn't be an issue moving forward )for you anyway). Is there a keys or guitar player who can hang with the horns?

Was thinking the same thing last night... I know they're not going to be eager to do that, but it might help things. I think I have to 1st get new IEMs, 2nd organize my thoughts and options, and 3rd have a serious meeting with the 3 band owners and sound guy. This is becoming serious and I think if they know I'm considering throwing in the towel they might up their efforts to find a solution. I'm by no means irreplaceable, but they do like me and I know the last thing they want to do is break in another bass player. I'm in my 6th year with them now too - and it will be really difficult finding someone who has the ability to do the gig that can commit to it like I'm committed. 2-3 gigs every weekend is super tough... which is another thing I'm not too sure I want to continue doing. I have no personal life any more... not a healthy way to live...

My next book might be titled Learning to Say No .

IMHO I never had that problem with giving permission. I normally have FOH along with sound person. Everyone else is set to there AUX sends. FWIW I have been using Presonus(about a hour drive from where I live) gear since 1999, Studiolive Console since 2011 (GEN 1,2 and 3) and Studio One (Versions 1-4). TBH last gig had THREE devices set to FOH, a PC and Ipad for sound person plus mine.

imho you need custom IEMS with a good seal, and you wont hear that foh so much....or at least can enjoy a 25db cut.

Yeah.... your tone seemed as though there's some stuff below the surface. Lots to ponder. At least it's good that there isn't any animosity involved. You just gotta do what's best for you. I wish you all the best sorting it out, whether it's a simple rearranging of the stage or starting a whole new personal/musical chapter in your life.

to add. with the PA so loudly bleeding thru, your IEMs level have to be way too loud to hear them. Thats got to be the killer. First time I used my custom IEMs I decided to take them out for the encore. I couldnt believe how loud the stage was...AND I had to crank my stage rig to hear it properly in that mix.

Yeah.. the average -dB cut from customs is -26dB!!!
That’s a LOT OF external noise removed.
I often take mine out at the end of a set, and realize how freakin’ loud the House is…

Sometimes I leave my IEMs in until the house music turns off after our set. Even with no music going the room seems loud. It's like I can hear the air move or something. Crazy.
