More practical: Phaser or Flanger

I had an MXR Phase 90 and a Boss BF-2.

The BF-2 hardly got used. The Phaser added just the right amount of effect, so it stays, the BF-2 goes.

...And it probably won't be long before the Phase 90 hits the bricks, since a Maxon PH-350 arrived yesterday.

I find them both very useful, but for different sounds. I find that Flanger is much more useful in clean tones, during quiet song sections, but I prefer phaser when the tone is distorted, as it seems to scream a lot more.

I own both, have them right next to each other on my board and use them quite frequently. I don't even consider them close to the same effect...maybe it's the setting that I have each respective pedal on.

The sound I get out of my BF-2 is a metallic, shimmery tone. The Phase 90 is more jet phase-whoosh type stuff. I recommend them both.

To me the phaser has more of a dramatic effect so might get more annoying after a while. The bf-2 is a little more versatile & I would probably use it more.

i have a PM7 from ibanez and OLD FL9 from ibanez and hash brow from danelectro...

the PM7 is the oldest in my family... if it where a normal phaser i wouldn't use it so much... but i tend to experiment a lot on it (after 6 years of use i still plug it every week at least)

but i must say that flangers are nice too... the efect is more dramatic, and you dont need to play a lot to get a good sound...

if i where to choose between i would go with my PM7 cuz its more experimental orientated...

I have both (BF-2 and EVH Phase 90). If I could only choose one it would be the BF-2--covers a wide range from subtle to wacked-out). That said I love the simplicity of the Phase 90 and I often slip it in on jazz gigs where the flanger might be a bit extreme.
