Not sure if lemon oil actually increases sustain on my fretless ebonol board. It would appear that way, but it could be in my head, too. Can I treat it with something else for a better sound and sustain?

Fingerboard treatment is not a consideration when it comes to sustain.

A lost point is paying attention to where you strike the string on a fretless. Plucking by the bridge is a longtime Jaco-style favorite, but he also played over the neck pickup as well as where the neck meets the body. Playing farther away from the bridge excites the string in a wider arc, creating more sustain and "mwah" naturally.
