More Thump?

I'm playing in a classic country band & the singer/guitar player keeps saying can I get more Thump on the bass. That's Thump & not Thumb. He says to much bass or to much highs. I'm puzzled as to what he wants. Got any ideas?

Foam mute at the bridge with a heavy pick or your fingers.
Preferably with flats but old rounds will do.

Try rolling off the lows on the bass drum, or anything else that needs it, like keys and guitars.

I think the key is the keys. Piano player is the only one in the PA other than Singer. Fender Jazz Bass with rounds & Ampeg B100R Amp. No compressor.

Using a pick and palm muting would go a long way. Also reducing your lows and boosting your low mids. A comp and preamp could help too.

Solo the neck pup and roll back on the highs a bit. Someone also mentioned foam. Try that as well.

Consider a compressor. They're not just for squashing.

Ask him for some examples of songs where he likes the bass tone. Then, go home, listen to the songs, and try to get that sound yourself.

Thump to me is old time upright. Foam and flats with pick and palm mute will get you close to an old time upright sound. Back off the knobs and adjust till it sounds like "thump".

I think the upright sound is what he is after. I sold mine years ago.(1950 Kay M1). He comes from a Bluegrass/Gospel background. Thanks for the help.

Jbass no bridge pickup. foam mute. I use a frump by gruv gear.. on a p bass with round rounds. I'm switch to labellas soon

Roll off low lows and your tone knob. Pluck firmly between the fretboard and neck pickup. I don't know how to thump more than that

flats w/ pick. for instance a P or a J with a set of labella 760f, fairly stiff pick. THUMPY.

I was going to suggest trying flats but if you like rounds, get a graphic eq pedal if favoring the neck pup and rolling off the highs doesn't do the job. If you have a P bass, use that.

Switch on ULTRA LOW switch. Roll back BASS if needed to reduce mud.

The GAIN of the B100R has a natural roll off in the lows as you turn it up. Set MASTER to max then set GAIN last.

Boosting your volume going into the amp (with any pedal that'll boost your volume) and leave GAIN at lower settings for lots of volume with plenty of lows.

Next I'd try foam under the strings right next to your bridge, tone knob to taste.

Maybe he's looking for a different sound like mute, to play with your thum as you mute with your palm (Just maybe) here's a sujestion..
Why not Just ask him..
