Moses Graphite, Inc.

I was thinking of ordering a Moses 5 neck. I think I'll wait and see how this pans out first.
But, if he has one in stock, then I'll pull the trigger.
I just played a Jazz 4 with a Moses neck, man it felt/played/sounded great, I know, there are a LOT of factors invloved, but the neck just felt stinkin' good. Like you guys stated, it felt "played".

Yes, please keep us posted. I contacted him re buying a custom neck, and his initial follow-up was good. But I haven't heard back in about a month. It happens; emails often get lost in the mix. I consider it fate telling me not to drop $600, so I haven't sent any further emails.

Oh, yeah, the necks feel and play great. No question about that.

I don't blame you for waiting. The only other thing I could suggest at this point, if you wanted to take the chance, would be to go ahead and order, and be prepared for some hassels. Plan on not getting your neck for a while. Plan on having to do a little work yourself. I you do that, you're less likely to be disappointed. While it's a shame that potential customers should have to lower their expectations of a company, it's also a fact that there are many manufacturers of various products who manage to stay in business on the basis of their product's desirability alone, if not their customer service practices.

The long and short for me is that I now have a great playing neck, but it sure took some work on my part. Generally speaking, when I pay someone $375 I like to have THEM do the work. If I'd known I was going to have all these various service and set-up problems, I probably still would have purchased a neck from Moses--but I would have liked to have paid more around the low $200 mark for it. My time and labor are worth something, too.

Well, lo and behold, my neck arrived (and by arrived, I mean that the postperson tried to deliver it, and my roommate didn't answer the door, so I have to wait until Monday to pick it up from the post office). I didn't get a call back, but at least the neck has been shipped to me. Hopefully it has been fixed correctly - I'll post results once I re-install it.

I appreciate getting the neck, but still some communication would have been nice. In a service oriented industry, where one bad experience can be heard about by 10,000 people thanks to the wonders of the internet, communication is crucial. Moses would do well to address that issue.

Thanks benjamin & stringbass for keeping us/me posted.
I gotta say that I've seriously changed my mind on getting a moses neck. I just don't have the time or patience for that headache, especially at that price point, plus some to get it 'right', since I don't do much of my own work. :hmm:

I hear ya. But I do have to say, if you have the time and patience, the necks are very cool. Still, I understand your reluctance. I'd be hesitant to order another myself. Thankfully I have all I need with this one.

Take care.

It's certainly interesting reading this thread. I've been considering a Steinberger headless neck from Moses for some time, as I have an unfinished body, pickups and headless hardware laying about that would be nice to utilise. However, it's very off putting to see the hassles some of you are having, and not being in the US would mean that following up via phone or return of product could make this a very costly project, so it's on hold. Pity. Being at a distance relies a lot more on trusting the company involved to get it right, both in providing the item and any possible follow up later.

If I can get some decent tuners, eg Hipshot U/L's it might morph later in the year into a Jazz bass using a Status graphite neck, who's customer service I can't be more complementary about (and who's products are superb too)

Well, my fretted neck has arrived and installed beautifully this time. Moses fixed the problem with the heel angle, and then re-installed the inserts in the same place as the old ones. Now it fits in the pocket and sets up correctly. Hooray!

Moses should have called me when I left several messages, but at least I got the neck with the work done as promised. I'm a happy boy.

Now I have to learn how to deal with frets.

Me thinks Steve is watching this thread, as well he should.

So....do the right thing and delete the thread. You aired your dirty laundry in public, the man made it right with you, now clean up your end.

None of this "leave the thread up so others can see the problems I had" crap either.

It should stay up so prospective punters can see how the issue was dealt with.

My opinion tells me to disagree. With all the grumbling around here about 'use the search button', I wouldn't want some poor soul to purchase a less than par neck from Moses (like Stringbass and Ben S.) and wonder why no one else has ever had a problem with the company. I think we all need a little fair warning on what kind of (expensive)mess you could be getting yourself into.
Besides, I seriously doubt that all would have been made right in either of these instances if they were never posted here anyways.

I agree. This forum is very valuable for research, especially when the product in question isn't available at your local music store.

This thread has made me lean towards Status for a MM neck, even though it may cost more than Moses.

I haven't heard any negatives about Status...

I couldn't disagree more.

What has "aired" here is not "dirty laundry," but the experiences that I and others have had with Moses Graphite. Yes, "the man made it right." Eventually. When it suited him, or when he was able to get around to it--whichever came first. And it must be noted that he did so only after putting his customers through no small amount of frustration and hassle.

The positive has been posted here as well as the negative. What could be more fair than that? If anyone at Moses--or anyone here--has a problem with anything that has been said in this forum, keep in mind that it all could have been avoided by Moses doing things the right way the first time.

Mistakes happen. That's life. No problem. What matters is how the mistakes are dealt with by the person or people who make them. Speaking only of my own experience here, the mistakes Steve and Moses made could have been dealt with better, with far greater efficiency, competency, and courtesy. And I don't feel I'm being too harsh in saying so. I have worked customer service in general, and music retail specifically, since the late '80s, and I know how my situation should have been handled.

Am I perfect? No. Have I made mistakes? Yes, indeed. Lots of them. But, do I expect to have those mistakes expunged from my record? Do I expect to be let off the hook, given some kind of pass for the errors I've made? Absolutely not. I'll gladly take credit for that which I have done well, and accept responsibility for what I have not. I know that seems strange to people in this day and age of blaming everyone else for your problems, but I guess I'm kind of "old school" in that way.

And really, what kind of person thinks it's "crap" to inform fellow consumers of his experiences--be they good or bad--with a company anyway? Would you be calling for the deleting of threads about a company where the expiences have been 100% positive? What rationale would there be in that?

And just exactly how long have you been on the Moses payroll anyway, "Mike"?

Just kidding.

Seriously, though, it's all here in black and white. People can make up their own minds without sending the thought police in to burn the books. So to speak.

Uh....no. Extremely shortsighted.:eyebrow: :scowl:

Exactly.

FWIW, a couple of years ago I had a question about a Moses neck I didn't even get directly from them, and Steve (or somebody there) answered it immediatly (via email).

Like it never happened? I don't get the logic?

If you were a potential customer you'd rather not know about past customers experiences?

This isn't their dirty laundry as far as I can tell. Glad it all worked out.

What's the price like, Moses vs. Status?

I had a Status Musicman neck and it was great. I recommend their necks highly. It was already installed on a bass when I got it but it played nice. I have talked to Rob at Status Bass and their customer service is very good. He's a busy guy too but will take the time to get back to you by email within a couple days and you can usually get him on the phone if you ask for him.
