While not a band per say...I also have much love for Yoko Kano. Her stuff for Ghost in the Shell is nuts.

Radiohead for best songwriting, Widespread Panic with Jimmy Herring, and Phish for best live atmosphere. I don't know how Pat Metheny's current lineup is but I'd bet money its one of the most talented bands out there nowadays.

As far as Muse is concerned, my manager and I both listened to Muse's new album at different times and both came up with the word "douchy" to describe it. It sounds like a gay version of Queen.
Wait...
Except Queen is amazing so they sound like a straight version of Queen. Ya gotta have a little homo for it to be original and epic.
