Most versatile bass?

Believe it or not, a Hofner Icon! I can pretty much play anything with it!

Didn't line 6 come out with a modeling bass a while back. If I understand correctly, you can just turn a knob and make it sound like several different basses. I would just get one of those.

Ritter, Marleaux with programable pre, Musicman 25 anniversary assuming your band wouldnt freak out at their appearance. In reality, my sadowsky PJ covers about everything and is what I usually bring.

Actually, 'most versatile' seems to imply a lot of varied session or live work. And there are MANY very busy session/live bassists that do not play a Fender.

Play one that sounds good to you and you will play better.
