Motivating myself to play bass again...

Thanks to some stuff that's happened, I really don't want to play bass.

Unfortunately I have band commitments this year (leading from last year) and so this is proving a problem. I end up playing the same stuff over and over again till I get really bored of it.

Any ideas? My bass is sitting in the corner hardly being played.

well if it still smells of puke, that would be a good thing to fix.

Wrong bass. My Shergold is a gig-only bass.

I say burn your ships behind you and start all over doing something really new, either band, instrument, teacher... It worked out for me several times doing it that way.

Sincerely hope my advice won't affect your marriage...:D

Well I'm learning the drums if that helps...!

Hit the glass ceiling on rhythm guitar. Took up keyboard, keyboard led to clarinet, that led to bass. There will be something after bass I imagine. That does not mean I can only play the NEW instrument.

Have a gig playing rhythm guitar tonight at the American Legion Hall -- Formal Veterans Day Military Ball. Just because your instrument is no longer fresh does not mean you have to stop playing it or stop playing with old friends. Get something new that lifts your kilt, but, don't divorce your old friends.

Small world! I started a similar thread over in "General Instruction",Fassa.I`m kind of in mental funk too and it is allowing me to skip or rush through my practice time.A decade ago I was a self-taught hobby bassplayer and it`s frustrating as heck for me to re-learn everything.Feels akward and clumsy.Since my buddy got me the bass as a gift I feel under pressure to learn fast and do well. Not sure of any advice I could give to an experienced player so I`ll simply wish you well and say "hang in there, bro!".

On an up note reading/searching these forums helps me to think about bass and want to practice.

Hang in there.
