Let me just say that I wish more advice seeking people were as receptive to advice as you are.
Most of the time people who ask for help on the internet have already made a decision and just want to hear confirmation that they’re right.
Thank you.

Fyi I've tried this before, using a Stage Ninja phone clamp. While it served its purpose, it had a major unintended side effect of nosedive. I couldn't keep my bass or guitar properly positioned with that extra weight at the head-end.
I will say though, that clamp works great on a mic stand off to your side; relatively unnoticed, no weight-changing attributes to your guitar, and still easily assessible.
Thanks, but I will probably not attempt putting anything on the inside of the bass. How about two strong neo magnets, one inside the bass and one outside that hold each other in place. Then stick a dashboard car phone mount to the outer magnet. No mods to the bass.

Not trying to catch anyone in the act... Trying to catch when they start to speed up, so I can help keep the song in the same "time zone" as it started. I fully understand that many songs speed up a bit during an instrumental break. I want to bring it back down close to starting speed after the solo when that happens. This method works pretty well for me. I just don't want to be looking at the floor when I do not have a mic stand to mount the phone on. I do not hire them; they hire me.
Yes. Wrap it up. I am done here. L.Sounds like the OP has received advice to both his mechanical question and the broader issue. Unless he wants to report back on his solution, it may be about time to wrap this one up.
