I think the future of live movies outside the home will be even larger venues. Imagine seeing the new Star Wars on a huge screen at a baseball stadium.

In my opinion that would be a *terrible* way to see a movie. Light pollution, noisy restless audience, and horrifically bad sound (for a movie).

You mean like a concert in the same stadium....?
This may affect what type of movies get made. If you make 100's of millions on super hero movies you can gamble on lower budget or indie type films. I hope it doesn't change the art form too much.

Exactly. It's not how I want to see a movie. Any movie. Maybe a lot of people would. I pity them.

I didn't say it was better. I said it was the future. Go back to the 70s, and the biggest bands played Madison Square Garden (capacity about 20k), and often places much smaller. Now even lesser bands bands regularly play venues so big, the only way you can see the individual members is by looking at the video screen, and the sound is terrible.

I was trying to think of a dramatic, unexpected direction they could take, that could still be traced back to a seed planted in one of the previous movies.
Wifey has had HBO Go through Prime for some time now and that will be switching to HBO Now when Amazon gets it integrated into Prime. For now she downloaded the Now app and can sign in with her Prime credentials so it’s available through Prime now if you are willing to do take a few extra steps to get it.
My brother has good things to say about the SiFi series Raised By Wolves so i’m thinking I might give it a spin soon.

The sound levels are deafening. And there's rarely more than five of us in the theatre, whenever I venture out. Might as well stay home where there's more people 
The last movie I went to was Apollo 11. That was a blast. Same deal — barely a smattering of theatre-goers; sound cranked up towards the threshold of pain. Cost a pretty penny too Why do we do it?

While I fairly enjoyed the first Matrix movie, I'd rather watch a documentary on the Wachowskis transforming to women than sit through another Keanu Reeves movie these days... no lie.
I'm sure Reeves is a great guy... but I just can't watch him onscreen lately. And yes, that includes the John Wick flicks... blecccchhh.

I get what you mean, but proximity to the screen and the speakers is key. Jumbotrons at sports venues are great for glancing over at a sporting event but aren't great for watching movies.

HBO has changed HBO Go and HBO Now into just plain HBO. Those services no longer exist separately. HBO Max is a separate service and will be the one carrying the Warner Bros. movies.

HBO Max is a stand-alone streaming platform that bundles all of HBO together with even more TV favorites, blockbuster movies, and new Max Originals for everyone in the family. Stream Friends, Looney Tunes Cartoons, Wonder Woman, the Studio Ghibli collection, and so much more.
HBO is the streaming option for all of HBO, including original series, movies, specials, and more. HBO NOW and HBO GO have been rebranded to HBO.
Apparently i failed to properly convey my thoughts. I am aware of the changes to the various HBO streaming services but again, wifey has Amazon Prime and pays an additional monthly fee for what was HBO Go which will be replaced by HBO Max when Amazon gets around to integrating it into Prime video. As of yesterday, if you log on to Prime and you have HBO Go as one of your channels, you still get HBO Go which does not contain any of the Max exclusives such as Raised By Wolves. After a call to Amazon CS she learned she could DL the HBO Max app to her iPhone and sign in with her Amazon Prime credentials and get all the Max exclusive offerings, which she watches on her bigazz TV using Chromecast.
Multiplexes and malls are now irrelevant. That is a lot of property and buildings to repurpose.
One ironic solution was Amazon repurposing a mall for a Fullfillment Center.

Malls are dead... but multiplexes will eventually come back, although it could take another year or two.
In the meantime, I don't feel like holding my breath during a movie... and I don't have plans to go to Singapore or New Zealand where the virus is more under control.
I like the move to offer up new movies at home... but I think it's absurd to try to offer "Cinema Safe" to people, especially this winter... just a horrible, stupid idea driven by greed.

With the recent developments posted here how can multiplexes survive the increased competition from streaming? In a year or two they'll likely be bankrupt.
I hear ya... but I believe many enjoy the experience of going to the movies... getting out of the house and going to the multiplex with family or friends... buying the tub of popcorn... and seeing a new, anticipated movie on a big screen with fantastic audio.
