Away from fuzz/OD to what? If your guitars are doing the bright reverb thing, the last thing you want to do is add chorus or reverb or delay to your bass tone. A subtle pedal like the Beta or TFR will add to your low end and fill out that whole area in a lush counterpoint to the shimmery guitars. I play in what would be considered an indie band when I can, and while the guitars aren't exactly ethereal and bright, I use a low gain OD or fuzz in places to fill out the sound. Below is a clip where I used a Pork Loin this way (I've since swapped it out for the Beta, which can also do a cleanish preamp thing with the gain turned down).
