Moving from Warwick to Fender! Help

Greetings! I know that i will receive answers like: "take the bass that you like more" or "You are the only who knows the answer to that", but i'm really unsure about what to do, and maybe you guys can help me clear my ideas!

I Have a Warwick Streamer Jazzman 5 strings (German) that i'm willing to trade for a 2011 Fender AmDlx Jazz Bass 4 strings , i have 11 years of playing, and never had any jazz bass, and always wanted that tone!

Is this change smart? al least i have a Custom Bass that has a modern sound like the Warwick, so i would not miss that tone

Thank you!

apples and oranges. i have a couple of LX5s and a Fender P, and I like all of them. if you like the Warwick then get a cheaper Jazz, like a Squier VM, and see how you like it. if you don't like the Squier VM then the trade for the AmDlx may cause regrets

Frankly, the bottom line is fairly simple.....if you CAN, keep the Warwick and buy the Jazz (I realize that it's an expensive proposition).

Play the hell out of the Fender. If you like it - keep it and THEN decide what to do with the Warwick.

For me, I decided years ago that I was dropping everything else in favor of Rickenbacker and Fender. Been playing them (exclusively) ever since and am a happy camper. GAS is cured and now I can concentrate on the myriad of amps out there......:rollno:

From Warwick to Fender sounds like step back in evolution, but if you have a retro feel period sindrom why not. Better option is to find used Fender and play it a bit, they are not expensive.
Also, you might wish to step up in Warwick line, toward used NT Streamer S2 or NT Thumb. I have few of them and only one Sadowsky to compensate my needs for Fenders (yes, indeed sometimes Fender is just a right thing).

I think youd do better with a Warwick with J style pups. Look around for a nice used german warwick corvette with active preamp onboard. May or may not want to replace the pups and electronics though. If the latter, get a passive german corvette and replace pups with whatever J pups you prefer and add 2band preamp of choice to replace the passive tone control. Using stacked bass/treble pot version of preamp.

In my oppinion, Squier is a fine choice if you get the right one. I dunno if they made any changes with the current Vintage Modified Jazz, but the one from a couple years ago that is natural with a black pickguard and Duncan design pickups is 100% legit Jazz tone. Its also pretty dang well made. Yeah, it won't be as well made as an MIA Fender, but sounds like you don't need it to be.

I've owned a couple of Warwicks, Corvette Pro and Katana (both 5ers). Both served me well. It wasn't until I upgraded my Fender QMT Jazz with Sadowsky pups and VTC preamp that my Warwicks became expendable. The Jazz is a four banger but the Sadowsky upgrade took it to new heights. It's got the complete package, growl, bite, burpy Jaco, super nasty slap & pop, great finger style and anything else you can imagine. The Sadowsky upgrade hit me for about $400 (including installation) but it was well worth it.

I'll admit off-the-shelf this Fender didn't cut it for me when compared to the Warwicks. Especially when it came to cutting through the mix. But with the upgrade... Lord have mercy! Game over... My band mates love the sound too!

The only way to know for sure is to play a couple of Fenders and see for yourself. The sound is one thing to consider the weight and feel will be the others.

Hope this helps...

I agree that Sadowsky upgrade is plus for Fender bass.
Sadowsky bass is next stage of Fender bass IMHO.
But, Warwick can be upgraded with Delano+J.East combo (expensive) what is again beyond reach of any Fender (wood combo enters into play heavily).
