Moving from Warwick to Fender! Help

I know I'm new to the forum, but I have been playing bass for roughly 22 years and would like to offer my input. Squiers are "ok" basses, but comparing them to amdlx is apples and oranges. Different feel, different tone and different options. I've played many warwicks and they hold a place I'm my heart, buuuuuuut ever since I got my amdlx precision bass I liquidated all of my other basses that were put on the back burner. Although its not a jazz, it can mimic some jazz tones and is also very comfortable to play. The humbucker is nice with lots of growl with good highs and the p pickup has nice warm tones which is good for a lot of situations. Although, I'll admit it, I do kinda miss my wick.....but I'm happy for now.

No worries and Welcome!!!

You'll find here that the consensus (of some) is that the new Squiers are better than their American Deluxe counterparts....I, for one, most definitely DO NOT hold that opinion, but what the hey!!! to each his own!!

Welcome!!

I switched from warwick to fender around 2006, I had a thumb NT 5. an infinity SN 5 and a streamer S2 5 and a corvette $$ 5... they are all long gone. I dont regret it one bit minus the streamer S2. That was the flagship of the warwick line for sure. It also had twin J pickups so im sure thats why i liked it the most.

I now own all fenders. mexican and american.

"its a step backwards" sorry but it sometimes takes steps backwards to go forwards. I think warwicks all kind of sound the same. A fender J bass sounds nothing like a fender P bass.

Take the plunge, you can always buy another wariwick down the road. you wont want to tho =P

Wow, that's quite a downgrade. A Warwick is really something special that's hard to replace. Being handmade, it's likely you'll never find one like the one you have now.

Jazz basses however, can be found a dime a dozen. I'd keep the Warwick, then buy something like a $150 SX to satisfy your Jazz bass needs. That's exactly what I did.

Warwicks are no longer handmade, and haven't been since the 90's.
Warwicks are still production basses, and to pay those prices for them is of personal preference. I wouldn't ever again. I tend to think Fenders play way better then any Warwick. Like i said though, other then the Sreamer stage 2, Warwick are very meh. I know ive owned several of their top of the line basses. They are very well built. Much better then Fenders, Fenders just capture a sound that Warwick just cant get.

If you think SX basses sound like Fenders, no wonder you stick with Warwicks. :hiding:

Warwicks do sound good though. I seem to think they are one trick ponys though. this is my opinion and of course YMMV.

i'd keep the Warwick and find another way of getting the Jazz tone.. the funny part of this, for me, is that i gave up an MIA 83 Jazz for an 04 Warwick Corvette Proline.. so, i'm coming from the reverse of your situation..

the Jazz Bass has it's own tone.. but, then again, there are many Jazz tones.. pickup placement, hardware, body woods, electronics..

i've played a recent MIA Jazz AmStd 5.. it's very impressive.. granted, it was setup very well.. the only reason i didn't get it, was that i just didn't have the money for it.. would i trade my Proline for it?? i'm not sure if i would.. even though it's very nice, the Proline gets "those Warwick" tones.. the Jazz is a Jazz.. the standard, defined Fender tones that you can count on..

i'd consider, in your situation, to sell off equipment that is not your not in dire need of and make room for the Jazz you want.. having both is really the key, because the tones are so polarized.. don't limit yourself, no one could expect a painter to be restricted to a single color, or a single brush.. so don't restrict yourself in the palette of tones you need to refine your craft..

Greetings! I know that i will receive answers like: "take the bass that you like more" or "You are the only who knows the answer to that", but i'm really unsure about what to do, and maybe you guys can help me clear my ideas!

I Have a Warwick Streamer Jazzman 5 strings (German) that i'm willing to trade for a 2011 Fender AmDlx Jazz Bass 4 strings , i have 11 years of playing, and never had any jazz bass, and always wanted that tone!

Is this change smart? al least i have a Custom Bass that has a modern sound like the Warwick, so i would not miss that tone

Thank you!
I personally think that moving from warwick sounds like a good idea.
In your case especially, since you have something modern sounding which seems to be able to do what that warwick does, I'd say full steam ahead.
What ever you do, I hope you end up happy with the decision!
