MPA to target Tab Sites

I don't rely on tabs that much at all...but they do come in handy sometimes, and many people use them...What I don't understand is how this is stealing from the artist.

If I listen to a song, tab it out and share it with people who wanna learn how to play it how is this stealing? It's not like I am scanning sheet music/tablature to my computer and selling it on the internet. I created it from scratch.

With organizations like the MPA it's about the money, not about the music. F*** them.

there wasnt an ounce of seriousness in my body, young fender. I guess I'm spoiled, I was born with perfect pitch so I really dont have a problem transcribing stuff from a recording, but it is a skill that I think every bass player should learn. Too often we use tab's as a crutch for playing. I could just be ignorant though. Sorry if this comes off wrong, I dont mean to insult anyone.

hmm.. so if tabs are a crutch, maybe we should get rid of sheet music, too... oh.. and those silly chord charts...

It's all tools... I use all of them to make me a better player. If people use them as a crutch, and are happy with where they are at as a player, HOW DARE YOU judge them?

I think you (as in "one") would have to be incredibly naive to go through life not realising that people are judging you all the time...:hmm:

Everything you do, goes to make up an impression that people will use ...that's how human societies work - read any book on anthropology....?

Even whether or not your body is symmetrical, means that people will judge you in different ways.

I used to work in recruitment policy and it's well known that within a few seconds of walking into a job interview - you have been judged!!

The difficult thing is to get people to realise this, put their snap judgements aside and make decision based on suitability for the job, rather than the judgements that everybody (and I mean everybody!) makes about their fellow human beings on a day-to-day basis!

Well, as is the case on other forums I visit, people here seem to be rather riled up over this as well. I don't know how many of us here are lawyers, so the chances of putting together any kind of legal defense to this ridiculous action are looking pretty poor. What we can do is get ahold of them and let them know that all kinds of musicians are against this. We ought to organise something and flood them with letters/emails/ phone calls to let them know that we aren't just going to lie down and take it. A quick visit to the mpa.org website turned up the following contact info, if you have a chance you should give them a piece of your mind. Keep it professional though, yelling and using profanity won't get us anywhere.
