Mr Skeptical

never used an Eden 210XST, but I do have a CN212 and can say for certain that it would be hard not to be happy with this cab. Light(46lbs), reasonable one hand carry, great tone, much bigger than you'd ever imagine a 2x12 could be, at least IMO/IME.

good luck

Well Ok... I remember years and years ago, when I went to buy a set of home stereo cabinets, the first thing I would do is pick them up and feel the weight. The heavier weight told me they where built solid with good wood and heavy magnets.I guess things have changed. I also feel that a solid built stage with good bracing underneath has a lot to do with the solid sound of the bass. Which goes back to these light weight cabs now being made. Are we getting old and sacrificing the sound for light weight gear? I know this must have been discussed before, but I need reinforcement.

No sacrifice at all, that BS game of cabinet/speaker magnet voodoo is over now. Unless you like blowing smoke over specs you might not understand...;)

The latest generation of neo drivers are excellent for bass. The CN212 is a wonderful cabinet. You really should audition the cab and decide for yourself. Be willing to like your old cabinet more, and also be willing to like the Berg more. Be willing to own and use both if possible. The decision is yours.

2string1,
I went through a very similar conflict a little over a month ago while thinking of replacing my Schroeder 210PL. You can read through all the TBer's help and responses and guidance they gave me through that difficult period here:

http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f15/berg-cn212-vs-schroeder-pl210-998067/

I used to use an Eden 210 years ago (I am not sure of the sub-model - might have been an XST, not really sure.) I felt that my Schroeder was vastly superior to the Eden and, to make a long story short, I am now very, very happy with the CN212.

So. Logically, if N kicks the #&*$ out of P and X whips N - then X whips the #*$% out of P... Right?

Seriously, the Eden 210 is no comparison whatsoever to the Berg CN212.

My only nit-pick to the CN is the relatively weak finishing material. I did not opt for the extra $110.00 for a cover and I have already damaged the finish sliding in and out of the car a few times.

Sound-wise though, it is wonderful.

A $1,200 cab, and you decided to save $100 on the cover. As you found out (with virtually any cab with any finish).... bad idea.

Well, that's just dumb, isn't it? You pop 1200 bucks for a cab, cheap out on the optional cover, then whine online about the scratches that YOU made moving it? :D

Maybe better to complain that Berg doesn't mandatorily supply the cover with every cabinet, even if it means it costs another 100 bucks, don't you think?;) It's a pain in the rear when you order a cab, and the cover is " temporarily out of stock". Every cab should a a cover with a matching serial number, just to be sure it goes with the sale.

$1200.00 on an awesome bass cab?... Ok, I can see that.

$100.00 for a big square pillow case?... Now THATS just silly.

2string, my tale is causionary; get the cover. ;)

I have a 10 year old ,at least, 210XST with a cover. It remains in perfect condition. I would never spend 1200 on a cab and skimp on a cover. It wasn't me complaining about the price of one... If I get the CN212 it will certainly have a cover...

The difference is this. Heavy magnets once meant MORE magnet, stronger flux and some of the advantages that go with that. Of course it means even heavier speakers because you need a frame that can support huge heavy magnets. Nowadays Neodymium means that you can have as powerful (or more) magnetic material for a fraction of the weight. Then, people realized that a well damped cab, that's properly designed (thanks to better understanding of the physics of sound and speakers) can be light too. Many of the 'new wave' of cabs are half inch ply...that's a huge savings in weight there.

If you're in home audio, you're only moving your box a handful of times. If you're in a band, you may move it a handful of times a day or week. No need for the extra tonnage without benefit.
