Does anybody NOT like this? Anybody else own this?
From his first release as a leader (recorded in 1969).
Mr. V. was 22 yrs. old when this was recorded. Yeah - 22 yrs old.
Stunning command of the instrument, great sound, great notes, fresh vocabulary (and compositions - FJD is the one "cover" tune.)
Yikes. IMFO, of course.
Here is the opening track: Freedom Jazz Dance -

I'll be listening to that one soon... thanks!

Vitous's album "Emergence" found me at a right time a few decades back, I ended up listening to it a lot for a while. Solo DB, graceful and elegant. A master class in how to apply virtuosity to captivating music, without stunts.

(Not that I was ever at the slightest risk of becoming a virtuoso of any kind :smug: )

This is such a great piece from a virtuoso player. Not to hijack the post but another player who reminds of him is Yuri Goloubev. Another player that turns everything he touches into solid gold.

Liner photo from Trio Music (w/Chick Corea and Roy Haynes). I especially love his playing on Trio Music Live in Europe. He had something special with Roy that no one else had IMHO.
A truly remarkable album. I saw them live at the Kool Jazz Festival ( the year it was actually a jazz festival) here in St, Lous They played the Loop/Summer Night medly and lots of Monk. Miroslav was astonishing so was Chick and Roy.
