MTD 630: Awesome Short Scale

Sounds great. The slap sound wasn't quite there for me but I wouldn't necessarily blame that on the scale length (it could have just been that particular bass, regardless of scale). Also, I've heard 535s that were boomier for sure. I would not have guessed the scale length based on the sound at all.

Man, this short scale trend is intense.

I started using short scales witbh a '60s Dano Silvertone Model 1444 in the '70s. I couldn't afford a Hofner until the recent Ignition series when I bought my Hofner Ignition Club Bass. Prior to that I used the Dano, an Epiphone Allen Woody Rumblekat since it first became available and Jerry Jones Dano copies.

The recent explosion of shortscales available from major manufacturers is apprecieated. I've used both long and shortscales since the early '70s and switched to only shortscales long ago. At least now I can find strings much easier than I used to.

One word: "Birdsong" The 5-string B of the Hy5 enters from the top, does a 180 and comes back through to the bridge. Perfect sound and tension for me.
